    Jay78 - Apologies if I was a bit too hostile, totally unintentional, and a fully deserved finger wagging.
    Tootsie - My words of wisdom were just general, clearly you have a lot more experience than me. I just get really irritated when staff/ colleagues waste so much time and effort trying to defend a marginal complaint of small value.
    they advised me I needed to clear the balance first (understandably!) and a debit card payment would be the quickest and easiest way - so they were aware ...
    To me, this was the key point in the argument. If the MBNA staff give this advice, then they should accept that a mistake has been made, and not hide behind a not very obvious T&C. I agree that T&C's are a necessary evil, but in my experience, too many Companies (Particularly Banks) would rather quote them, than admit that their staff got it wrong.
