Just bagged up £450 in silver, £1 and £2 coins. That will cover the holiday!

I have been saving for a while and have been very good recently about putting my all my change in the jars and using notes when paying for things - it also means i spend less because i think i have overspent!

Hope you have securicor to carry it all for you - will be mightly heavy.

This is a good trick, use only notes, and save all your change.
I do know someone who bought one of the saving tins that looks like a banknote and only saved £2 coins in it - well one day was full and used a tin opener, low and behold there was almost £1,000 in there. Have got a few workmates all doing the same now - one is saving and once opened - will be spent on the house and one is waiting until xmas then opening it for xmas pressies
I bought one for my nephew 3 years ago at xmas, aged 18 and it said on it 21st birthday party fund., and put in £50 worth of £2 coins in to start it off. He thought it was a great present but did it stand the test of time, well boys will be boys, he was going to Amsterdam with friends for a weekend, so bought a tin opener - need I say more.

Yeah, the trick is not to be tempted to liberate some cash for a night out. I would get the can, but they aren't cheap to buy and i would resent it when i had to open it with a tin opener!
I do need to drive to the bank next week - they are going to looooove me !

  • Hi Dalradian,

    Found you!!

I too am in early 40s and singlehandedly paying off my mortgage. I have a partner who gets his house with his job (lucky boy) but has done nothing about having a house so if he loses his job, he's homeless. Too much stress for me. Well he'll come and live with me! Lol

Just read your diary, you're doing really well.

    T:)

79p from HB or 99p from B&M, and better still if you don't have a tin opener - no temptation in your way, will probably cost more to buy the tin opener ROTFL

Hate it when my icons don't work - they will only work if I reply without quoting. (Mad)

Hmm, maybe, but trying to get rid of stuff rather than buying more. Just took 5 bags of books and clothes to the charity shop

I have sorted through drawers and old suitcases and have amalgamated all my toiletries - especially travel size- in one place. I seem to have bought a lot of moisturizer....no more purchases until i have used all these up!

Spoke to ee as i am coming to the end of my contract. I should be able to go to a sim only contract with same data for £12.99, down from £28. Nice! My phone is fine for what i need, if it breaks i can go and buy another one from around £160, if i don't upgrade to a recent version. It does what i need so think this is a good plan.

Also got £59 back in combination from quidco, credit card rebate and santander payment so hopefully will put together enough once paid to do a repayment. I have to make a min £500 overpayment which is frustrating.

  • Just got £85 of railway vouchers after complaining - my motto now is always complain! Apparently i can now get cash rather than using the vouchers, which i think i will do, just need to bring the various letters in with the refunds.

On another travel realted note i have been good this past week about taking an empty water bottle with me and filling it up as i go as i identified this as an easy overspend i could control. I can claim some purchases as expenses, and since limited by luggage limits i tend to dump uneccessary stuff before travelling back. So will be a balance of reusing to minimise spend versus what i can carry.
