Making a huge chicken pie - i can freeze the extra and have as ready meals so no waste. My garden is producing lots of salad leaves and pak choi so don't need to buy any at the supermarket just now. Need to thin out and replant some of my plants for the next crop

Starting to check out getting a new car. Not a petrolhead at all and do limited mileage, so buying an expensive new car seems pointless. I might see if i can buy my company car when it reaches 3 years old - i sm sure i could get another 5+ years out of it.

i have managed to overpay more than i expected to this year. I am making a new stretch goal of geting under £100,000 by 2016. I have a shareshave scheme maturing this autumn which i can cash in, plus some regular overpayments.

    Fingers crossed!

Yeah, most of my driving is around town, but i do occasional long journeys and have got used to leather seats, rear parking sensors and climate control :-) My company car was £20k new, but the lease company will sell for £10k when the lease is up. I just need to see what the car allowance will stretch to!

I used to have a honda jazz and am tempted by a cheaper car which would allow me to put more payments towards my mortgage but need to offset it with the requirement to have a "respectable" company car to visit clients with.

And £100k seems such an important barrier to breaknthrough, but have to offset it with replacing my bathroom jn next year. My salary varies due to commission payments, so timing the building work can make the difference between paying it from salary over couple of months, to majorly dipping into savings

You are doing very well - good for you! Re the car, when my previous car was ten years old it started to cost a bit in repairs so I sold it and bought new. The depreciation on the new car has massively outweighed the potential repairs in the old one and I really wish I had faced up to the hassle factor and kept it. I won't ever buy another brand new car, so sticking with your company car seems a really good option especially as you know it hasn't had anything dodgy done to it.

    Very good luck to you,

Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D

Ya it will come if i was in that situation i would say to myself the bathroom aint getting done till i hit under that 100k mark and then treat yourself :]

If you buy a car like audi a3 a4 around 8-10 years old youll find they lose hardly any value and are just as reliable stylish and drive as well as many new cars for a fraction of the cost get a well serviced one with good milage you wont go wrong
i will follow with interest :]

I haven't been chasing the plumber - he is so busy he hasn't followed up either for visit with joiner to suss things out. The tipping point was the toilet playing up, and it is again starting to need me to manually create the seal into the cistern when used. Might have to move things up if it really starts to annoy me, otherwise will soft pedal things for now.

Tried to overpay on the 31st when my salary hit, but the bank said they couldn't credit it to my mortgage as too close to my normal payment?? Anyone else have problems overpaying close to their payment date. Not got round to redoing the overpayment as have been travelling for work, but hope to do so in next few days.

I'm having the car debate with myself at the moment. The deputy Head at my school has a 10 year old a4 in metallic with leather seats and is lovely.i got a brand new kia 6 years ago, and intend to keep as long as possible. Was thinking of changing but decided against.
