White Gloss Paint .. Doors etc

I am about to repaint all the doors, frames etc in the house (white) but have heard comments about white paint turning yellowish in double quick time, now (thanks to EU rules regarding paint manufacture)
Now I have always used normal oil based paints for woodwork, but maybe it's time for a change.
If I stick with oil paint, which brand (u/c and gloss) is the best.
Alternatively, if I opt for more modern water based paints, can I paint directly over the old gloss paint ? (Obviously I'll wash it down then sand everything, to provide a bit of a key for the new paint.
Regarding the water based paint, again, which brand is best.
thank you
PS Take a while to reply .. I don't mind, at least I can then start painting after Easter

I have nothing good to say about Dulux water based, but have just got some leyland trade quick drying, to go onto primed MDF and primed soft wood. I'm not using undercoat but it's taking 3 coats to cover properly, although with focus and time/ lack of puppies, this could all be done on one day.
No idea about yellowing yet, it's only been on a week, but so much easier to clean up etc0 -
How do you define 'best'?
You would be advised to use white satin wood imstead. Remains crisp amd white for years.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
We used crown water based gloss and it took 2 coats o er water based u/coat as advised not good to put on top of old gloss even though likevyou cleaned and sanded. Drys quickly and cleaning up easy they say it wont yellow will never know as we are moving house.0

This has been asked several times recently so if you do a search on this forum you will find plenty of up-to-date comments.0

Gloss on old wood does go yellow, it happened to me.
I used some satin brilliant white, i painted months ago and it is still pristine. Sanding and preparing the old wood doesn't seem to stop it going yellow.0 -
I find brilliant white egg shell is more durable, covers better and looks nicer."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Highly recommend as above eggshell. I'm current using Dulux Diamond brilliant white eggshell and it's excellent.0
