impecunious, i understand your concerns, it does seem unfair at times, but you think it over it becomes clearer.

paypal charges fees related to the payment side of things, the seller is only paying a little more than what they would pay any other merchant service for receiving peyments funded through a credit card, you have to understand this process to understand why paypal has these fee's.

ebay can only offer you protection if you use a payment method it has put in place and has set guidelines for, it does not stop you using cheques postal orders or bank transfers, as then it would be accused of god knows what else, but it cant protect you if you use them.

seems fair enough to me.
