Is it possible to renew an old credit card for a new 0% purchase period?

Can anyone help with the question below? I have been looking for a concrete answer but unable to get a clear answer on this.

I currently have 3 credit cards that are/were 0% purchase. If I want to take advantage of the new 0% purchase credit cards from the same provider, am I able to cancel the existing ones and re-apply? Do I even need to cancel the old ones?

Santander - 0% purchases expires in September

Tesco - 0% purchases expired a year or so ago

Halifax - 0% purchases (not sure when it expires, but barely used - should I cancel it or keep it?)

Some will want you to formally close the accounts down and re apply as a new customer.

Lloyds told me 6 months, not 1 month as stated in that article

Thanks for the responses guys. So it looks like cancel and then wait a while depending on who the card is with.

Does anyone have experience of Tesco 'new customer' time period ?

Always worth a phone call to cancel your old card, they'll usually try and stop you cancelling so may offer you a 0% deal on your existing card.

I have done this a few times. I normally leave it for quite a while before applying again. I tend to keep one card until the deal runs out and then cancel it when I get my new card. Never had a problem with any of the providers but I think it would have been at least a 12 month period between re-applying again in the past as the new deal tends to be 6 or 12 months.

When I cancelled mine last year, Tesco told me 12 months.

Tesco used to send me 0% deals in the post I'd say maybe once a quarter and Halifax I'd get a 0% deal roughly every couple of months via post again so worth keeping an eye out.

I noticed something interesting with lloyds.

I up until today had an old credit card account, but no card as I hit money troubles about 15 years ago so the card was took of me but account left open for repayments.

However I noticed in internet banking if clicking balance transfer "as an existing customer" they had 6 months 0% transfers even tho an old account, so anyone with lloyds it might be worth checking that.

Today the card got cleared so account is now closed, and the debt I have left is all on my 0% tesco card. I still have my 2 capital one cards. One is the one that started me off with a £200 limit (when I had bad credit) and they kept raising the limit as my rating improved and now has a 6k limit (balance now cleared), the other is a lower interest capital one card I got after my rating improved but I have yet to use it at all, and it still has the low starting limit probably due to me never using it.

I cancelled my Tesco Credit Card yesterday, the advisor told me I could reapply in 6 months to be considered as a new customer.

Chris speak to Halifax about your credit card, it may be possible for you to have a secondary card on their current promotions or they may even offer you something on your existing card.
