To be fair to the sols, quite often there are delays in the searches, and its often not the fault of the sols. Most big firms use outside agencies to do the searches now, and some of them (like Searchflow) couldn't pull their finger out if their life depended on it. Add to that general local authority incompetence, and you get delays.

People expect too much from conveyancing solicitors IMHO.

You're quite righ diddlydum, I've found out today from our local council registry that the searches for the property we are buying were done last Thursday by a company called 'York Place' and the searches cost £11, they only asked for a basic search. The second lot of searches will be at Tonbridge Wells, no idea how much they will cost, but I'm going to find out tomorrow if they were done. It appears that Abode instruct these other companies to do the searches releasing up the time the solicitors take to do them, I'm interested to know just how much quicker they will be because 'York Place' still have to pass the information on to our solicitor, common sense says they could use the internet.

I must admit things seem to be very different since we purchased this house nearly 25years ago, pity the stress factor has not changed!

  • UPDATE

After ringing the SOL shortly after posting this thread they told me that actually the searches were due back on the 23rd :D

All the documents are in now and we are just waiting for the searches (all sides hoping to exchange this week)

I call every other day to make sure everyones's position is still ok, rang today to ask see if everything was still ok (and it was), then forgot to ask for a document to be forwarded to me so called back SOL, the gentleman I spoke to said that yes he would forward this out to me and we should be exchanging when the searches are in on the 29th!!!!!! he said that the dates on the system had changed and that was that.

    OMG I am annoyed:mad:
