Let them pay, I sometimes buy a ticket for a gig for some friends since I don't want to go alone. And that is for people who I know have other commitments (kids etc) so even getting the night off is often difficult for them. They always chip in for some beers at the gig.

£30 is a heck of a ticket price for a student production, but it may be a bit of fun. It may be an eye-opener, it may be brilliant.

Maybe offer to take him for a couple of pints beforehand, so even if it is a bit of a snooze you will at least be fuzzy enough to get through it.

He's a friend - do what a friend should do and support him. If he's hard up you should pay for your own ticket. If he's a good friend he'll not forget it and will find his own way to repay your good deed some time in the future.

    I totally agree.
That is what friends are for.

    You should go.

Just by going you're doing him a favour.
How about pay him back afterwards if you enjoy it / think it was worth it? :-)

Don't see why not, it's his choice. If you really want to upset him, just read the play beforehand, look up some positive professional reviews as well, and pepper his intended with flowery and intelligent compliments. You never know, you might lose a friend and gain a wife. Fair trade for a free ticket.

What a rotten reply - you certainly are NOT a true friend, wouldn't bother wanting to get to know you at all with your complete lack of morals.
  • You're doing him a favour by coming along to a play you don't even want to see - but if you're rolling in money yourself, you could offer to pay. Or as others have suggested, buy the drinks. Hope it's not a completely wasted evening for both of you!

Have a laugh about it, crank the pressure up and tell him that he can have the ticket for free if he can get her to go on a second date with him otherwise he pays!

Hmm... £30 for a student production...I wonder if the audience will be full of blokes trying to "impress" this girl ;)

Yes. He might succeed and she might have a friend.
