    It seems to take a good while to organise a funeral these days. You'd probably be home in time, should she pass away, OP.

    You are assuming a non Catholic or Jewish etc funeral then ?
    Plenty of faiths have a "fast funeral" tradition and it is considered disrespectful to delay the funeral.

    I didn't see the OP mention if this is the case or not- although I did get the impression it was more about been there to comfort his Mum afterwards rather than to attend the formalities.

    My Mum had a catholic funeral over 2 weeks after she passed away due to some of the grandchildren being in exams you can have a later funeral if you need to or want to.
