I would say that you have a good chance if you can quickly get the temporary travel document for one-way travel to Latvia from your embassy, with photo, or if you hold a valid Latvian national ID card. Brits do not have such things which is probably why they can only use a passport, but other Europeans regularly use their ID cards for air travel within EEA including to/from UK.

slight issue with this is the OP posted at 19:00 last night for travel 10hours after that, so 05:00 today, therefore the chance of getting the latvian embassy to issue an emergency travel doc, especially as this isnt really an emergency is nil

Be interesting to find out what happened. I reckon the chances of going in and out on an expired passport are high
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

as your going to your counrty of residence you would have no problem entering the country with your passs port out of date.. as you will be able to apply and get a new 1.. but you cannot travel back to the uk with it out of date... this happened to m brother while living in spain ;)

You would have no problems entering the uk either, in theory, however ryanair are not obliged to carry you if you do not fulfill their t&c's, which the op wouldnt be doing if she tried to travel on her expired passport

She mentioned availability of a travel doc in one day from the embassy and trying to change the flight. I have a feeling she went for it and flew already - hopefully we will hear something...

    (She? - I'm assuming...)
