Has anyone else had this problem ?
My mum was with o2 then went over to Sky during the changeover. She was not sent out a new Sky hub and was using her old o2 hub. She bought a new printer and it won't work with the old hub plus her broadband keeps dropping, so we rang the Sky help desk and after various tests my husband was told the o2 hub was redundant and was not working properly and they would send my mum out a new one free of charge she only had to pay p+p.
It didn't turn up so Mum made another phone call and was told that she would be sent out a hub f.o.c. still no hub and on the 3rd phone call she was told that she would have to pay for a new one and that it should cost £60 but they would only charge her £30 plus the p+p.
Now one of the people on the helpdesk told my Mum that if she had asked for a new hub within 12 months of the changeover she wouldn't have been charged for it but as it has been over 12 months she now has to pay
My Mum is 80 and did not know that she had to ask for a new hub in fact she was told by one of the techy guys that she should have been sent one out automatically during the changeover.
Is there anything we can do, she doesn't mind paying the p+p but why should she now have to pay for something which should have been sent to her free of charge. She is now not getting the service she is paying for.

1) She should mind paying the P&P. If she's been sent a number of hubs and all have not arrived, I wouldn't be paying again for something that, from previous experience, won't arrive.
2) Unless she has more than one PC or a tablet or something, the printer should be connected directly to the computer.
3) She should look at her contract, if she can leave, get a better deal elsewhere, with a reliable hub delivery method.0 -
The hub is not leased as part of the contract-it was hers from day one. Once the warranty on it runs out, Sky have no responsibility to replace it FOC.
However if she is out of minimum term, then the normal procedure is to ask for your MAC and then ask for a new router FOC as a sweetener when they try and persuade you not to give notice.
IIRC, Sky hubs were only sent out to people who agreed a new minimum term contract after the O2 takeover. Those who just continued with their transferred o2 deal did not receive them. However Sky broadband will work perfectly well with a o2 router: the new printer issue is nothing to do with Sky- it sounds like she needs a router with an ethernet port.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Sorry I should have said that she has an iPad with an air printer which should run over the wifi - or not, as the case may be.
The original Sky guy who did all the testing said that the o2 hub was faulty and he would send out a new Sky one f.o.c. She hasn't received any hubs, not sure what contract she is on and she probably doesn't know either !!!
I think she only pays £9.50 a month as she got a pay and go deal with her mobile and the BB through o2. I'll expect Sky will probably catch up with her and the price for her BB will now go up. Oh well probably time to start looking around elsewhere for a new service provider for her. Thanks for your advice guys.0 -
The discount for having O2's mobile no longer applies to Sky, but at £9.50 ,if she has no Sky tv or landline, your mum is getting a discount of £5.50 on the £15 standalone price.
I received a Sky hub, on transfer but did take line rental and the free broadband and tv offer, incurring a 12 month contract.0
