Have you heard anything from M&S yet JesseJames?

I too was told 48 hours when I applied online on Saturday, but still not heard anything yet. I didn't even receive a confirmation e-mail from them.

I got an update email saying they are still looking at the application and will contact you if further information is required within 3 days.

After that stage I got a letter in the post a few days later requesting proof of ID/address either returned by post or presented in branch. Someone else on here got a rejection letter in the post at that stage.

So in my (and others) experience they write to you with the final decision i.e. by post not email. Some people who get accepted immediately will of course have different stories.

In my case despite being a long term HSBC customer and with FD they couldn't ID me electronically at all.

Also as proof of address they will accept a current account statement - as long as its not from M&S, HSBC or FD. I couldn't understand the logic of that - surely their own ID is the best ID for their purposes?!

Thanks MARTYM8, hopefully I will hear soon then. I too have an account with First Direct, so will be interesting to see if they request any ID from me as well.

No, just the same boat as you, Saturday evening about 17:30 - used the in-built psr program to snapshot each screen so know exactly what I typed.
My wife did her application yesterday.
    We'll see how it goes...

Just getting round to this offer, as ever on the last day.

On the first page for applying after clicking "Apply Now" it states at the top:
If you apply online, we'll send you the paperwork to sign and return to us. We will then be able to open your account.

So obviously there is no chance of getting this account opened today to meet the T&C's for this offer which state:
you must apply for and successfully open, an M&S
    Current Account (“Qualifying Account”) between
    17 February 2015 and 31 March 2015.

The apply bit I can do, but there is no chance it can be opened seemingly in time.

I suppose you could hope they would honour the extra £25 but if not have to settle for the £100 offer instead.

Do people think I have understood this correctly or misunderstood it?

Yes – your understanding is correct.

The terms for the £125 offer technically require the account to be open and all ID checks completed by 31 March – and then you have 6 months to do the switch once open.

They may well honour it anyway. I would take the view they allowed you to apply on 31 March – so it was not your fault they didn’t open it in time.

So you take your chance, apply today – and get at least £100 and maybe £125 – or you await for the offer to come round again (they had a similar one pre Xmas) but that may of course never happen.

Thanks - as I want the M&S Regular saver also I will go for it now and hopefully get the extra £25. If not, rather than wait for it to potentially come up again I will benefit more from using the 6% regular saver.

Any idea why they do these special deals for the like of MSE? I wonder how much MSE get as well?

Finally received an e-mail today from M&S advising my application has been successful and they are sending me out paperwork to sign and return. Will see how long it takes me to receive that!

    I received mine yesterday too.
It'll be interesting to see if they give the £125 or £100.

I think they would give the £125 as they'd track you signed up using the MSE link, which I would have thought is what triggers the £125, rather than £100.

However, will have to wait and see.
  • I applied online Monday and still not had an email! Didn't think to take any screenshots as I assumed I'd get a confirmation email immediately.. usually do with anything you do online.

    I won't assume anything anymore :)

Did everyone else get an email within 48 hours even if the account couldn't be opened?

    Thanks

    That's great!

Well I had to phone them, but my wife was successfull like you.
So I phoned them and it was to do with how the address was formed, as I have a cottage name in front on the official PO address, that I did not state on the application.
After looking at the screenshots both my wife's address details and mine were identical - go figure!!
Both accounts are now good to go.

vintagebrighton - I think you will get an email today
