It will probably be best to get a Greek prepaid SIM card and use in an unlocked phone. This will mean free incoming calls, and you can be called via cheap call providers for about 15p to 20p per minute. You could also use a callback service for cheaper outgoing calls for similar prices. I'll look into comparing the Greek networks this evening.
  • This should help - its based on calling a Greek SIM card

Tho other leg - you calling from Greece - will require some investigation as to override providers in Greece - ask some Greek friends (if you have any) or look at override providers here and see if they have a Greek equivalent.

unfortunately my source of info on whether 0800 equivalent calls are free from mobiles in different countries has altered their site

but I just checked somewhere else and I think the answer is no.
  • I have recently bought a greek vodaphone sim card off e-bay to use when i go on holiday none of it is in English anybody know how to set it up when I'm out there and how to top it up? It's all Greek to me!

Try Vyke Mobile. You download an application on your phone and can:
    • Find a local phone box
    • set up a call using Vyke - telling it the number you are calling from and to
    • Vyke will call the nominated number (i.e. the call box)
    • You answer it and you will be connected to your desired number in the UK

2.4p per minute call charge to phone a landline according to a check I just did on their website.

I use it and think it is well worth a look.

    Hope it helps.

PS There is a small additional cost for a GPRS data request from the application (ie to set up the call) but it is done via the Net and is only a couple of seconds.
