Hi
I'm looking for some inspiration for a holiday this year.
I have a 2 year old boy and wanting somewhere warm and preferably out of school holiday season.
I know I could go for an all inclusive type thing but have never been that keen on those sorts of holidays (I worked in a very popular destination for a while so not too keen to go down that route). I've had a few suggestions e.g. Thomson Sensatori but LO too young for the kids' stuff.
I've done lots of DIY holidays and especially love Italy - I did an Owners Direct thing to Lake Garda last year with a friend which was great except the transfers were a nightmare.
Has anyone got any experience of doing this and finding something that's fun for both?
I have looked at some single parent holiday companies but the thought of spending a holiday with a ton of strangers doesn't appeal.
Some people have suggested not bothering and just going on days out around the UK but I spend my work life driving around the UK so would like a week or two off!
Don't want much do I?
So...week or two in May/June, not too long a flight, child friendly...any advice very gratefully received. It's been a rubbish year and thinking about planning a holiday has cheered me right up

Having another look at the Sensatori and they look ok actually - realising there's no point in paying for all inclusive as I don't think LO and I would get through £400+ worth of drinks in a week. The idea of having flights, transfers etc all included is actually quite tempting.
A little surprised that you pay the same for a toddler as an adult - is this standard?0 -
Are you going with others or is it just you and your LO?
Where are you in the UK?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
You do get a child price on All inc I think, but most things are based on 2 sharing so don't know how it will work. How about Tenerife, not too far and will be warm.
Price up FB and All inc may not be much different.0 -
People suggesting you not bother are real Party Poopers! Imagine never going on holiday until LO is 18??!?!?!? Miserable people!
Anywhooooo.......Barcelona, Santorini, Croatia, Spain, Cape Verde, Dubai, Portugal?
Are they child friendly, I don't know???
Being a single mom of two boys has never put me off exploring, I found my boys were easily pleased with Sun, Sand, Sea. I don't think we ever spend much time in pools, when your LO gets older, he'll enjoy snorkelling/water sports, mine certainly did/do.0 -
Forgotten how to multi quote, sorry!
It will be just me and LO - he's 26 months.
Tenerife is where I used to work
The ones I've looked at are quite a big difference between FB and AI and the same for LO
I'm in West Yorkshire.
I can't wait until he's older and we can do more adventurous things but am feeling a little limited at the moment. I think the 'don't bother thing' or 'just stay in the UK' is because 'he won't remember it anyway. *whisper* it's not just about him
I could do a package, I know. I'd prefer to get an apartment or something but it does seem to work out cheaper to go with a company.
Making my way across Italy with an 18 month old in a dodgy buggy with a rucksack, wheelie suitcase and changing bag is not something I want to repeat in a hurry (as kind as people were!).0 -

Have you seen that Meme saying, "no your child is not 26 months, your child is 2 years old!" seeing 26 months made me giggle!

This hotel sounds family friendly, by family/child friendly are you hoping for Kids club/s etc?0 -
Oh I have! Was just trying to convey he's a young 2 rather than close to 3

Will have a look at that, thanks!0 -
If you look at the melia hotels site you may be able to price up the sensatori in Tenerife much cheaper by booking the hotel directly, it's the gran melia palace d'isora or something like that. You can also book half board which may suit you better. Combine with so,e Ryanair flights or similar you could save quite a bit.0

How weird, I thought I was the only mommy who did that (when they turn 2, I only see them as 2 years old after the 2 year 6 month mark/closer to 3!)0 -
