The problem is that they've charged you according to the terms and conditions of the account, and you agreed to those terms and conditions by continuing to borrow money by using your overdraft. If you didn't want to pay the £6 you should have taken your business elsewhere.

You could say that about any charge or fee. It doesn't mean that this is the same thing. £6 a month plus interest is not unreasonable. You would pay more with other banks and other accounts. Ring them on Monday. Nothing ventured and all that, but my view is that you have zero chance of getting your fees refunded.

Regrettably the charge would be applicable whilst using the overdraft.

The chances of getting the charges back are minimal to non existant.

On the subject of bank charges, the courts ruled that they were legal.
I had a balance on my overdraft of £1900 and the only transactions going through were the interest charges. I was not using the od as such.
You were overdrawn. So you were using the overdraft.
Can we claim these charges back?
    No.

It's not really regrettable at all, it's a way for the banks to make money and keep you in a job now and me in a job when I worked in the sector. The OP has only herself to blame for continuing to pay fees on an overdraft that she was using.

AS I had a few times, I do not have a problem with the interest payments, it is the EXTRA £6 per month levied so the bank can afford to subsidise other CUSTOMERS!

Spoke to the bank and they are looking at it now.

ALSO, I would like to say there is no shame in having an overdraft!

You are the first one in this thread saying 'shame'.

However, overdrafts are for emergency short-term borrowing. Being overdrawn £2K for years is definitely unwise to put it mildly.

What exactly are they looking into? If you want to use your overdraft you'll have to pay the £6.00 fee.

By "other customers" I assume you're referring to those who used to generate the income for the bank, ie those who abused their accounts and racked up unauthorised overdraft fees and charges?

Because what you're suffering now is a direct result of the bank charges case of 2009. You didn't seriously expect them to reduce their income or charge those customers who were always in credit did you?
