Hi, All
RBS have levied a£6 pm overdraft usage fee on my arranged overdraft in 2013.
I had a balance on my overdraft of £1900 and the only transactions going through were the interest charges. I was not using the od as such. I could not pay anything off it at the time so kept the paying the interest charges. I have now moved it to a 0% cc.
Can we claim these charges back?

How can you say you weren't using the overdraft if you kept the balance at £1900? I think you need a lesson in elementary financial planning.0

You don't have to have transactions going through to be 'using' an overdraft. If you have a negative balance on your account you're using your overdraft, and you continue to use it every single day until you pay off the debt.0

Hi, Shortcrust
Thanks for your reply. I don't mind paying interest but not another £6 for using an authorised overdraft that did not go over the limit. This bank and probably others have no clear reason for charging another £6 per month on arranged overdrafts that so not go over the limit.

I thought the fees were only for non authorised overdraft0

The time to do something about that was when they served you at least 60 days notice of the changes to your account T&Cs.I don't mind paying interest but not another £6 for using an authorised overdraft that did not go over the limit.
You didn't change banks (to one with more favourable overdraft charges), or repay the overdraft, so you accepted the introduction of the new tariff.
Not what you want to hear I'm sure, but that's how it works.0 -
Hi.
Thanks for your post.
As far as I aware, I did not receive any terms and conditions notification. I was told by a person who works at the bank they would be levying an extra fee.
I will be calling the bank when I am off work next and see what they say.

The problem is that they've charged you according to the terms and conditions of the account, and you agreed to those terms and conditions by continuing to borrow money by using your overdraft. If you didn't want to pay the £6 you should have taken your business elsewhere.0
