I'd make a list of all the things you want putting right before you make the final payment. Ask them to sort what youre not happy with. It's not unreasonable to ask them to sort out what sounds like shoddy work before you pay them. Also take photos for your records.....just in case.

    Hope you get it sorted.

No you dont. I worked for a civil engineering company for some years and before we were paid for jobs we were sent a snagging list and the items on it had to be sorted before final payment. My sister recently had a new roof and they made a right mess of it. She was all for paying the final bill but I told her to just ring the roofer and say what was wrong and that she would not pay final bill until it was sorted. He came and redid the roof and also fitted free guttering and fascia boards and all was well.
Just make a list ans email it to them and say very nicely you wont be paying final payment until you are happy with it.
I made the mistake some years ago of having new kitchen windows and paying them same day and the window ledges were a mess and they never returned.

Thanks, we had snagging meeting, which was me versus 5 men, and they either very defensively explained why things were done certain ways or have put things right- like the holes and the door. I feel like they feel I'm picking holes in their work - s'pose I am :(
I work full time, leave before 8am and not back usually til after 7, so face to face communication has been difficult, not helped by the supposed project manager, who said hed be in touch every day, barely being here unless i've called him in. it was a 2 week job, they were here daily for 4 weeks. OH doesnt want me to pay them full stop!

The kitchen is beautiful btw :T
Far too nice to do actual cooking in :rotfl:

For the first time ever, I've paid out for things to be done to the house - new kitchen installation. This has included the boiler being moved, flooring, new ceiling as well as all the usual kitchen cupboards. Its supposedly completed now but i have queries about what I should expect.
For instance, new skirting and architrave. i bought this, and its been installed, which i've been billed for. However, they have left the labels on? Also the mitering (?) at the top of the door isnt great. I dont know if Im being petty expecting better than this.
Also the flooring - laminate - there is a gap of 7mm next to the back door.
Ive had enough of pointing out things to them - from the kitchen door hinges only being held on by one screw each, holes being left in the external wall where drainage pipes were moved, crooked electrical sockets.
But this has been extremely un MSE, and they want their final payment - and I want rid of them!
So do i let it go, or moan again?? :(

You're paying a lot of money probably so you're supposed to pick holes in it and ask questions.

Compile a list when the workmen aren't there. Then ask for a second opinion from a friend/relation/other.

Present formal written list of items to be rectified to company, await response. If satisfactory let works recommence to rectify. Pay only when you're 100% satisfied. The law is on your side.
Ensure you pay by credit card/finance so you have additional protection under the CCA 74.

I would call the project manager and insist he comes to see you at your convenience ( ie in the evening ) and until he does you wont be paying any more money.

    Morning all
Been so busy with the kids off school so have been MIA :o
Hope everyone had a great easter :) SIL was over from Australia so had a good catchup & finally got my new oven, hob & my very first dishwasher installed very cheaply thanks to hubby having friends in the trade :j :j :j
One question for dishwasher owners do you use rinse aid? My dishwasher load comes out slightly wet & glasses do have white spots on them sometimes & I have put dishwasher salt in the machine? Thanks :)

    BEWARE!

Right, big disaster on APG front here. Just did a CC and it only gave me just under a tenner instead of the £50 plus I was expecting because it said I had gone over the limit. Last three shops showing are well under and it has clearly picked up a CC done from a friend's account earlier this month which I paid for with my card. So instead of looking at the account email etc, it has checked the address on the credit card and decided that 'household' means 'address on credit card'. This may be one of the changes which previous posts were wondering about. Am rather gutted about this as I can't quite work out how to get a credit card legally at a different address... While I am extremely reluctant to say goodbye to £40, I don't want to query this since it would highlight both accounts which have been very profitable! May just try to return 10 Udis...

    What do others think please?

A small problem here, any advice welcome.

a while back I got this nice email
    "Hi ,

As a Caffè Nero customer we thought you might be interested in some rather exciting news.
We've teamed up with the Art Fund so that now you can indulge your taste buds with our Italian blended coffee and your passion for art too.
All you have to do is visit
    https://www.artfund.org/caffenero
    before Monday 13th April.
There you will be able to purchase your 3-month National Art Pass, your passport to art in the UK, at the special price of £10.
For three months, you can enjoy free entry to over 220 museums, galleries, historic houses and castles across the UK including Cardiff Castle, Royal Pavilion at Brighton and the Shakespeare Houses and Gardens in Stratford-upon-Avon.
You will also receive 50% off major exhibitions like Inventing Impressionism at the National Gallery (save £8) and Sargent at the National Portrait Gallery (save £7.25)

    With thanks,
    James and the team"

so I tried to join up this morning. Firstly I tried with my normal credit card and after several failed attempts I did a C clean, cleared my history and cache and started again and this time tried the debit card, same message to say something wrong with my card.

"Sorry there was a problem processing your payment, please Edit your payment details and try again".

So I rang 020 7225 4800 in the hope of being put through to membership department but all they gave me was an email address to send messages to

There is a 0844 number on the page but that's premium rate

so I am going to email them but I am worried they wont reply before Monday. I am also going to try applying using the ipad instead which is safari.

I am in the midst of planning one of my magical mystery tours and the Art Pass is a crucial part of the itinary - very annoying.

I've checked the account this morning and paid the coal bill so I know everything is OK there.

OK - its now worked on the ipad so it must be an IE11 issue - most annoying :)
