dinner plates won't fit in dishwasher

my son and family have just moved into nice rented accommodation. One problem though, although it hss a large kitchen with good quality appliances, their dinner plates won't fit into the indesit dishwasher. There is not enough clearance below the "arm".

So I took them round some standard sized spare plates I had and they won't fit either. It seems like no standard sized dinner plates will fit and the slots in the rack are too close to put them in at an angle. Doing some on line research this seems to be a common problem. I have always had Bosch dishwashers without this problem. Is it common on other brands?

Never heard of that before. I would email Indesit plus put model number into Google and search for Indesit <model number> plates to big to fit,and see what comes up.
  • Probably not actually a problem.
Most newish dishwashers have adjustable top racks so that you can fit in tall glasses when required.
You should be able to pull out the top rack completely and reinsert it at a higher level. If you find the exact model number you'll be able to download the manual from the Indesit website.

Often, there are clips at the front of the runners on the upper drawer. Remove those, and the drawer comes out. There should be higher mounting points available, although this obviously reduces the height of the upper drawer.

Dinner plates not fitting in the dishwasher? - now that's a first World problem.

Thanks for that everyone. There was an adjustment function for the top tray, not immediately apparent, and son has now fixed it and plates fit. Result :)

I agree! I never had one in any place in which I lived until 2.5 years ago when I got my first new kitchen. Now I would really miss it if it broke. Sure i would manage but wouldn't like it.
Mine is just a slimline but I have no problem fitting my plates in (John Lewis one).

I've had a dishwasher since 1966 and would't be without one.
