I was the county volunteer advisor for:http://www.taxvol.org.uk/ for quite a few years. Most of my time was working out of AgeUK's branches. I saw enough there to make me angry - poor advice given by poorly trained staff - all for a good cause. Additionally I offered my services for CAB and was accepted. However what I saw there and how they 'helped' people went against the grain. Too much in the way of rules and staff control for my liking instead of getting down to the nitty grity at the first interview. Sending people away after an initial interview and expecting the problem to stay as it was in say 4/6 weeks time when they came back. I don't work like that, never have. I also don't like people looking over my shoulder.
So you don't volunteer then?

Not any more. I did it for over 5 years and decided that it was time for others to carry it on.0 -
It's been a while since I posted the original question I know, but I just wanted to let people who replied know that it's all sorted now, we're getting attendance allowance at the lower rate (and back dated) and I've permanently dropped my hours at work, so things feel a lot easier. I've decided to carry on working for now as I think I'd be bored silly at home all day every day(all my friends work full time). This means we can't claim carers allowance, but that's a choice we've made for now.
Thanks for all the advice everyone.I love a bargain. Now mortgage and debt free. hurray!!:smileyhea0
