Even though he has aids, does he either need help using the aids or does he still need help? If aids don't completely remove the need for help, then he'll be classed as needing help.

Thanks you said it much better than I did.

No doubt the OP will appreciate that link, but in my experience, AgeUK aren't that well educated with filling in these forms. I have seen some very amateurish attempts made by AgeUK. You must remember that they aren't benefit experts or welfare rights officers. They went when the government cut the legal aid funding.

But I suppose each office may be different.

I went in to see them to explain a fairly complicated situation. They looked at me as though I knew more than they did.

Why do you keep giving such negative posts?

To be honest I am quite fed up with your posts. It is all about you and 'someone you know'.

Posters are looking for support and your posts are only adding to their stress.

If you can't say something helpful then butt out.

Another fairy story from yet another Andy AE.
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

I'm not being negative only honest & helpful - AgeUK in my experience were a waste of time. But as I have said it may differ from town to town.

What do you want me to say? That everybody will get a first class service from properly qualified welfare rights officers? Live in the real world - I do and it's not a pretty sight to be honest.

What I want is for you to stay quiet unless you have something positive to say.

If you believe that AgeUK are not helpful then don't say it just give an alternative.

I'm doing volunteer work for the CAB. I've also been a volunteer for years, helping with form filling at my late husband's Day Centre, which was run by AgeUK.

As you know so much, both these organisations would be thrilled if you could give them the benefit of your knowledge. :)

    Been there and done it!!

I was the county volunteer advisor for:http://www.taxvol.org.uk/ for quite a few years. Most of my time was working out of AgeUK's branches. I saw enough there to make me angry - poor advice given by poorly trained staff - all for a good cause. Additionally I offered my services for CAB and was accepted. However what I saw there and how they 'helped' people went against the grain. Too much in the way of rules and staff control for my liking instead of getting down to the nitty grity at the first interview. Sending people away after an initial interview and expecting the problem to stay as it was in say 4/6 weeks time when they came back. I don't work like that, never have. I also don't like people looking over my shoulder.
