The Bailiff can't but if you obstruct them plod can, there's a new offence of obstructing an enforcement officer.

In my experience once bailiffs are involved the only way you will win is to pay or have the good seized. Failing that a warrant will be obtained to force entry to your premises and disconnect the supply or change the meter to a pre payment one.

Quite why anyone allows things to get to the point where bailiffs are knocking on the door is beyond me, all it does is make you owe far more than you originally did.

Wow this is true, thanks for the update, fortunately for me they cant knock down my door/use a locksmith, so I have no reason to stand in their way/obstruct them. I will only talk to them through my letter box/pretend im not in.

Also it doesnt matter what they add to my hypothetical bill, its not gonna get paid just like ones in my past havnt and have long been forgotten about.

They are only throwing their own cash down the crapper not mine.

Also what counts as obstructing an enforcement officer? Does it mean getting in the way with your body so he cant come in? It doesnt mean not letting him in if the door is on its security chain or something like that does it?

It isn't really all ok though is it? You can't just lock yourself away- surely you will need to leave your flat at some point?

Yes I will leave my flat but I will lock up when I leave etc, I just cant leave a window or door open when im in there , I cant be so casual anymore, but that's no big deal it wont change things much. I will look for another place to rent if worst comes to worst.

I can usually empathise with people in financial difficulty however in this case i have no empathy, i hope the bailiffs do gain entry and take away the computer.

5 years of not paying for electricity and not addressing it sooner is taking the p**s.

Most utility companies do help to try and rectify any issues (even if it means putting in a pre-payment meter and charging the already skint a higher rate per kw)

It seems this guy wants free electricity to watch tv on his computer (so he doesnt need to pay for a tv licence)

You judge me as bad when really im not, you dont know all the facts and id prefer not to talk about them, if thats ok with you.
  • Hi Tom

It seems that your questions were answered around posts 9-11.

The new offence of obstruction has not been tested by the courts yet, AFAIK

Herbie's site is pretty good on this sort of thing
