Yes indeed, HSBC ATMs, no doubt made of sterner stuff than Tesco check-out machines, will swallow and digest CI notes greedily. In HSBC yesterday using self service cash deposit machine.

It would have been nice to hear if OP Ralph tried his Guernsey notes in a Santander ATM or had any other result, but he seems to have disappeared. Next time I come across a CI note I will try it, now that I have a Santander account. Might be a while though.Evolution, not revolution0 -
Afternoon,
Sorry for the delay I couldn't get the time to go to the bank during opening hours til today. I went to Santander (Llandudno branch) again. I tried the paying in machine, it rejected all the notes and spat them out again.
I tried the teller and told her I had been told online that Santander should accept them. She said they weren't on the system but I said I was sure they should take them so she rang a colleague at another branch who didn't know either. She then spoke to her manager who said "No".
What on earth do I do now?0 -

I've always found Natwest very helpful, even if you aren't a customer, and they have a branch in Llandudno, you could try them next time you're in town?0

I still say don't worry. Even if Santander have a general policy of not accepting these notes, which seems extraordinary, NatWest as OtB mentions or other banks will accept them, even if you have to ask somebody who is an account holder to do it for you. Airport exchange bureaux usually exchange up to £100 worth free of charge.ralphhughes wrote: »Afternoon,

The only problem could be if your notes are £1 notes, for which banks may not have the facility in their system to handle these days.
I recently presented a Santander teller with £1,700 worth of assorted Scottish, Northern Irish and expired old issue English notes that a money-changer friend of mine in Singapore had got stuck with and asked me to do something with. She accepted all of them immediately. There were no CI notes among them, but if there were I would have been surprised if she rejected them.
So now I am really curious. If you become desperate enough you can sell me the notes and I will head down to my local Santander with them ...Evolution, not revolution0 -
Alternatively if you are flying from any UK airport anytime soon they will be accepted by all retailers and restaurants at the airportI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
