INR and signed for

Hi all, quick question...

If I posted an item signed for and a buyers opens an item not received case/request, would eBay side with me?

I'm asking because I've sent an item with a stamp on it via the post office and the buyers has messaged that they've not received it. Their feedback profile suggests that this happens a lot.

I'd like to send them a replacement but I'm worried that might go missing and the buyer will then demand a refund.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Did you get a proof of posting when you sent the original package. If so, I'd submit a claim to Royal Mail for the missing item and refund the buyer. Then block them.

You would win an INR claim as long as item tracked to delivery, the only RM service that guarantees that is special delivery. Have a read of the sticky postage thread.

    Biggest Scam on eBay.

Tell them to open a case, as if they open too many eBay shut their accounts down

If Signed For, submit the tracking details to the case, wait 8 days & then phone eBay to close the case.
It will be closed in your favour, with No Defect & the buyer will not be able to leave any feedback
Also point out to the eBay agent that their feedback suggests that they're doing the INR scam a lot

Was it sent signed for or with a stamp?

If signed for, which isn't tracked, does it show as delivered?

It needs to show as delivered for eBay to side with the seller.

Don't stoop to low levels and post IDs.
  • Signed for isn't really good enough for an eBay claim, as often it won't show as signed. Something actually tracked like myHermes would be better.

Confront them with their feedback and suggest you suspect there is an issue with their mail going missing. ASk them if they'd like you to contact Royal Mail on their behalf.

Offer to arrange a redelivery online.

Wow, that's a lot of replies!

I do have proof of delivery and will block them.

I originally sent it first class and was questioning whether to send a replacement signed for or by another means so that the replacement doesn't go missing. I will read the postage thread.

Whether I send a replacement or give a refund, I will ask the buyer to open a case.

I've looked again at the feedback they've left others and in the last 200, they've left 32 Negatives. Of these 17 are cases where the buyer says item not received, although there are a couple of comments where it's not clear. Does this seem like a high amount?

Thanks for pointing this out. I've been meaning to look at myHermes

How many items have you ordered online that went missing? Some people are more unfortunate than others it would seem, so either they are stealing or their postman is. Either way sometimes threatening to report sometimes puts the wind up them. I make a point of rearranging delivery online and forwarding the confirmation to them so they know Royal Mail has a record of the request, regardless of what actually happens.

A good half never come back. As I send items that go through letterboxes easily, that says a lot to me.

If it was just standard 1st class, what proof of delivery do you have?
Proof of Posting is not Proof of Delivery, whether your being scammed or not.

Royal Mail Signed for is good enough for an eBay case, as long as the Royal Mail have updated the tracking to show delivered.

More than 5% bad Feedback Left for INR is bad & I would sound them out, where the feedback being left for other is visible

    When we suspect a scammer we would reply with;

    Good Morning/Afternoon xxxxxx

Firstly please accept my sincere apologies regarding the Non Delivery of this item, rest assured that we will resolve this issue to your complete satisfaction.

I have just spoken with our Account Manager at Royal Mail she has confirmed that this was last scanned at your local sorting office as it got placed onto your local Postal delivery route, therefore there can only be two possible explanations regarding the Non-Delivery of this item at present.

The first is that the Postman attempted delivery and due to the size of the package we believe it may not have fit through your letterbox, therefore it would have been returned to your local sorting office – can we therefore ask that you check with your local sorting office and see if it is there, unfortunately the Postmen do not always leave cards.

If it is not there, then it looks like there could possibly be a dishonest or Clumsy Postal worker in your local depot as my Account Manager has mentioned that there appears to have been issues in the postcode area covered by your Post Person previously according to her Database. She is therefore keen to open and internal investigation with Royal Mail Security, the Police and eBay's Internal Fraud Department, she has politely asked if you would be so kind as to supply the following details to assist the investigation as Royal Mail Security and the Police may need to contact you should this turn out to be a criminal case.

Full Name, Address and contact telephone number. Once we receive these I will forward you a missing parcel declaration to sign, once returned I will be able to submit a claim which will trigger the internal investigation with Royal Mail and eBay, I will then be able to despatch another XXXXXXX or refund you.

Our Account Manager has asked that you do not discuss this with your Post Person, as stated there is a record of previous issues on their round so it appears there is an underlying problem there somewhere.

I once again sincerely apologise regarding this issue but please rest assured we will get to the bottom of it.

    Kind Regards

Nearly all have closed the case, with one claiming INR on a Parcelforce delivery where we had the Geo coordinates to prove where it is was signed for, on his doorstep!
