Wish to fit a better horn to my Volvo V50

The standard production horn that is fitted to my Volvo V50 (06) Plate is not too loud to say the least. I use my horn very sparingly but feel that I would like one which had a more penetrative sound.

What would be a louder and legally permitted one to fit please?

Regards.

Find a car with the horn sound that you want and fit one from one of those.

I fitted a 120db twin air horn to the Vectra, had to fabricate a bracket to mount them, mounted the compressor in the battery box, lifted the fuse box, wired the relay into the horn circuit, connected the + feed via an in line fuse from the battery terminal and put it all back together again....... 20 minute job :)

Because the original horn requires the removal of the front bumper, changing the original horn directly would have taken several hours. As it is I now have twin air horns plus the original horn.

The original was pathetic, but now it really wakes people up :p

    Basically this:

They come in various brands, but they're all essentially the same.

Oh and insurance don't class it as a modification, I asked them.

The horn in my 2008 V50 was pretty loud.

Is there a chance yours is faulty?

And therefore fitting a used one may be a decent solution

Any of the Stebel range of horns, especially the Nautilus, will get peoples attention.

I once bought a cheap airhorn from Halfords or somewhere similar. I bolted it to the inside of the bumper and the connectors from the original horn fitted perfectly. Cost about £10 and took less than 5 minutes to fit.

Different insurers will take a different approach and so you need to check each time you switch insurers.

Many thanks to you all for your suggestions and I will consider each one.

I would think that 120dB would be considered the loudest permissible otherwise you may give someone a heart attack.

    kind regards...

Agreed w.r.t. the Nautilus, and quite small and thus relatively easy to fit - but do put a fuse in the power lead to it if you feed it directly from the battery.

PIAASports horns are a direct replacement, some others might need a new fused lead as they take more power
