TalkTalk Moving Rip Off

Options
I just called TalkTalk about moving my Internet, I am only moving down the road so on the same exchange.

The website says it is FREE and my existing contract has 7 months to run.

So imagine my shock when the TalkTalk operator said I had to sign a new 18 month contract and that it would NOT be on the same terms as my current contract.

I offered to add an additional 12 months to the end of my current contract if it was on exactly the same terms, but they would not do it.

I escalated it to a manager who tried to give me a few discounts worth pennies.

I think that it is a case for the Office of Fair Trading when a company says that they move for free when the truth is that they hold a gun to your head.

So I am going to pay off my existing contract and go with an alernative supplier at my new address,

I would appreciate any recommendations, my exchange has all the usual providers.
Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !

Why the outrage? The home move itself is free, but the trade off is always a new minimum term contract-and with TT those are 18m. Obviously, since it's a new contract, the terms will be different.
Paying an ETC of 5 months is likely to cost you far more than moving with TT.
Other than the longer minimum term, why are the new terms so disadvantageous to you-bearing in mind that your existing contract is not a fixed price one?

Saying good morning to them on the phone used to start a new contract with them.

They are offering to re-connect you at your new property with no fees - this is what they are marketing as a free move. No termination fee for your line/broadband, etc and start again at your new place for free.

This will start a new contract - standard with all providers that I am familiar with.

When starting a new contract, there is no obligation to maintain the same terms - after all, it is a NEW contract.

You can just buy out of the remaining term and start a 12 month contract with whomever you prefer if it works better for you.
