Debit Card Declined, flight price increased

You've nothing to lose by complaining to Santander if you suspect mistake was with them but as it may be an IT issue it could be very difficult to prove they were at fault. I think if it was Faregeek.com's fault you've got no chance. Unfortunately you might just have to suck this one up.0

The agent has more likely got it wrong. I've had account transfers fail because someone typed a number in wrong in the call centre. It does happen. But its more likely the agent rather than santander in you case because the santander side will be automated.0

Coming at it from another angle, should you be thanking Santander for preventing you booking with Faregeek?Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Yeah, maybe I should be paying them... I sent an email outlining the issue just to see what happened. If they offer me anything to compensate then I suppose its a bonus.
On the upside, I'm still going to Argentina for 3 weeks0 -
It seems bizarre anyway. Most banks will approve a transaction if expiry date is wrong if a correct 3 or 4 digit security code is provided from the back or front.0

Yeah, went through the whole online check etc. seems strange that it let me get that far with the incorrect expiry date.
Santander have emailed me saying they are trying to get in touch via phone.
I'll post the outcome after I've spoken to them.0 -
So I had a call from Santander last week to ask for evidence of what I entered as the expiry date. The confirmation from the OTA was provided and Santander said they would look into it.
An hour and a half later I got a call back saying that there must have been a glitch in either Santander or the OTA's system. As Santander couldn't immediately prove that it was their system at fault they could not provide compensation for the inconvenience caused but could compensate the extra money spend as a result.
TL;DR
Santander refunded the difference in flight price.
Thanks for your help0 -
Faregeek
A few days ago I tried to book online and by phone with Faregeek for a flight to Havana, Cuba.
The online booking was declined and I was told by Faregeek that because of restrictions placed on Cuba the booking would need to be done by phone - which I then did, giving them the necessary credit card details. Next day they sent me an email requesting copies of my I.D. and credit card and further personal details. I contacted my credit card company and requested that no transactions should be authorised to this company and I got the impression that the CC company are suspicious of Faregeek.
Be very wary of Faregeek - look them up and you will see some bad stories.Hello all,
I recently tried to purchase flights to Argentina through Faregeek.com but received an email a few hours later saying that my card had been declined.
I called Santander and they informed me that the expiration date had been entered incorrectly and that is why the card was declined.
In the email from Faregeek.com the expiration date listed was correct.
I am unable to get a response from Faregeek.com and the flights are no longer available on Faregeek.com.
I have rebooked my flights with a different travel agent now but the best deal I could find anywhere was £83 more than the original price (was £709 - now £792).
Should I be asking Santander to clarify what happened and get them to reimburse the difference or do I not have a leg to stand on?
Cheers,
R0
