Debit Card Declined, flight price increased

Hello all,

I recently tried to purchase flights to Argentina through Faregeek.com but received an email a few hours later saying that my card had been declined.

I called Santander and they informed me that the expiration date had been entered incorrectly and that is why the card was declined.

In the email from Faregeek.com the expiration date listed was correct.

I am unable to get a response from Faregeek.com and the flights are no longer available on Faregeek.com.

I have rebooked my flights with a different travel agent now but the best deal I could find anywhere was £83 more than the original price (was £709 - now £792).

Should I be asking Santander to clarify what happened and get them to reimburse the difference or do I not have a leg to stand on?

Cheers,

R

reimbursed for what? if you entered the details wrong its down to you.

I don't mean to sound rude, i am detecting a claim attitude.

    I'm confused.

If you know the reason why your card was declined, what can Santander clarify?

And if you can explain why you believe Santander should pay the difference, I'll listen, but all I can see is that your mistake meant the card was declined, so....

    Hi,

The confirmation email I got from fairgeek.com saying the card was declined had the correct expiry date on it i.e. I entered the expiry date correctly.

There appears to have been an error somewhere between Faregeek.com and Santander that has cause the card to be declined.

There must of been something wrong, banks just don't decline cards, but if they have, then of course you can try and claim the difference back from Santander, but I suspect the details were wrong somewhere.

To be honest Faregeek.com has a bad reputation and Santander may have thought it was a fraudulent transaction. Not the story they told me though.

I still cannot contact Faregeek.com but the fact that the expiry date on the email they sent me was correct suggests that the information was entered correctly in the first place i.e. no a fault on my part.

    Not the nicest opening remark.

I was stating that, due to no fault of my own, Santander rejected a transaction that has ultimately cost me £83.

I said I was not trying to be rude.:D

You stated in your opening Santander said you entered the date wrong, I did not expect them to be incorrect.

    Found that after I booked.

Strange thing was my partner booked at the same time (the almost same) flights with a Santander account and her booking number etc. has come through fine.
