Flybe 9 hr delay

Will try to be as concise as possible. Booked on a flybe flight from Birmingham to Belfast city on 18 March departing at 06.45 - this was cancelled due to fog. They also cancelled the 08.25 - but Easyjet flight took off. Flybe said it was due to the type of aircraft they had. Waiting all day finally was told we were transferred onto the 15.30 (Fog is long gone by the way) .....flight departed at 16.53!!! Flybe claim the delay was due to the fog ....my argument is the initial flight yes but it wasn't the fog which delayed us until 16.53 - what are your thoughts - do you think I should persist with my claim for compo??
