No longer able to speak to Virgin retentions online?

Hi all
I've had Virgin Broadband for a couple of years. At the end of every year, I speak to retentions via the live chat and negotiate a new deal. I tried to do this again today and keep getting told that I now need to call to speak to them. Is this the case?
I'm not good on the phone at all and this causes me a great deal of stress. I guess I'll have to keep paying full price if I can't speak to someone online.
Is there any other way I can speak to someone online, or any thing I can say on the chat to get to speak online with retentions?
Thanks for any assistance
