O/S Daily Tuesday 24th March 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Morning All

Well, I am up again! Took DD to the airport for 4am, back by 4.30 and went to bed again, probably had an hours sleep since.

DDs bedding in the wash, need to get into that room and give it a good clean whilst she is away.

Not much happening today, early night I would imagine but that seems such a long way off.

Have a lovely day. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, clear and dry and not frosty. Washing load ready to go out on the line, will do that before I leave for work.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. Will get DS2 up shortly so he can get ready for school.

Dinner last night was LO’s and use up what’s in the fridge – menfolk had breaded turkey escalopes, chips, beans/veg and salad. I had mushroom omelette and salad. I had somehow got 15 eggs that needed to be used by 24 March – so used some for my omelette last night and boiled a load, so at least they haven’t been wasted. Dinner tonight will be gammon, egg, new potatoes, peas, green beans and onion sauce.

Work yesterday was busy as expected, we were turning a lot of people away as we just don’t have the capacity to see them and some of those people that did wait were waiting up to and over an hour. The day flew by and we had a fire drill at our busiest part of the morning just to make it interesting – as staff we knew it was going to happen, but obviously customers didn’t – but we haven’t had a fire drill for several years and a new company is now in charge of the emergency lighting/fire alarms/equipment, and I was talking to one of their workers yesterday and she advised we’ll now be doing a drill every six months – quite rightly so, when we’re busy we have a lot of people in the building and we need to know we can get everyone out as quickly as possible, very often there’s lots of children/toddlers too. They were impressed with the speed that we got out, not so much so the businesses on the other floors of the building – they didn’t have any kind of procedure in place, couldn’t say whether all their staff were accounted for etc! That’s one thing I can say for my workplace they’ve always been strict on making sure everything has a procedure to follow! Today I’m working at the other office, so I’m sure that will be busy as bill’s are now hitting the mats and loads of the enquiries were regarding that yesterday. I’m sure it will be busy again today so it will keep us on our toes! Had apologetic email from supervisor regarding my complaint last week, which is fine, think she was worried I was going to take it higher as she offered to have a meeting with me to discuss it – I think as a way to stop me going over her head so to speak – I just don’t think it’s the right way to treat staff.

    Have good Tuesdays’ everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning all,

Weathe good at the moment but hav just listened to weather forcast and heavy rain and hail are forcast, deep joy

The garden is coming to life now, although we don't usually have really bad weather in the Midlands it can be very cold, but all the bulbs are coming through now, so colour in the garden soon.

Not a great deal happening at Candlelight Towers. We did have the 3 grandchildren, plus 1 boyfriend and DD1 on Sunday to celebrate DGD1s birthday. We had a lovely day, presents and cards were given, a roast dinner was eaten and enjoyed and later chocolate tray bake and some beautiful cup cakes which I bought, I know I should have made them but they would never have looked as good.

Gers, are you excited this being your last week?

Have a good day everyone, Camelot I fear you will be tired by the end of the day

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's looking to be a fine, dry day today so hubby has gone off to work quite cheerfully. The girls are faffing about getting ready for school and I am having a quick cup of tea and catching up with the posts on here.

I have a visitor from church coming to see me this afternoon so I will be doing some cleaning today, especially the bathroom and toilet so it's all shiny and clean. I'll be breaking out my steam cleaner as I find it's the most effective on the floors. I didn't get my baking done yesterday after all so I will be trying to get that done this morning as well.

I made a stew yesterday so that's todays tea sorted out and will try to remember to take some chicken out to defrost for tomorrow. My appetite has almost completely gone at the moment which is a miracle in itself so I'm just managing with cups of tea through the day and make the effort to eat with my hubby in the evening. Normally I'm like a ravenous beast so this is a good change. I just wish I could sleep through the night. I'm so tired I could cry....and I do!

I'm meeting up with my CPN tomorrow and it's been playing on my mind. I have my fingers crossed for bad weather tomorrow so we don't have to go out. Unfortunately it looks like it's going to be fine so I will have to haul up my big girl pants and get on with it. I'm sure it will be fine once I get out there, we are going to our local park for a walk and talk. There are lots of benches to sit on and it would be lovely to see the spring flowers.

Well that's all my waffle for today, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning all,

Looks like it will be a nice day here again, off to work for me got one of my favourite clients in though so will hopefully be a good day.

Meatballs for dinner tonight which I will get in the SC in a while, will just have to do the pasta tonight then.

DD has a meeting with her uni today, they seem to have completely messed up with her placement and it may mean she has to either start the whole thing again or re do the year, I am fuming this is in no way her fault and she is being made the scapegoat, will see what comes out of todays meeting and then I will get involved if needed, she has paid £9k for this year and there is no way she is paying again !!

Will need to have a quick tidy round tonight and put a wash on.

    Have good days all xx

    Morning all,

Really sharp frost here last night, cars and lawns are white  Anyway, the sun is really shining the sky is blue and that makes me happy!

Washing machine is on, got the towels and a thick bath mat in there so I will get that out on the line today.

Got another two loads of washing to do as well, but tomorrow is forecast to be even better than today so I will get those in tomorrow first thing, out on the line and then I need to zoom into Newcastle!

I will be glad when the black refuse bin is emptied this morning it is rammed full.

    Morning :hello:

Topsy I'm glad you're OK, I'll be thinking of you on thursday xx
A couple of people have asked if Scampi is a Parsons, I've looked it up and think he might be, though his adoption paperwork and vaccination record says JRT cross. In America, it seems they changed the name from JRT to Parsons years ago, though different websites say different things. So I'm a bit confused about his breed :D

TravellingAbuela I hope Mr TA's appointment goes well x

redruby That's really unfair  I hope it gets sorted out for her xx

We've had two nights of no accidents and staying in bed (or at least staying quiet downstairs), I must admit I thought the first night might be a fluke :D The walks went well apart from him spying a couple cats sat in the road on his late walk, they ran off and he soon calmed down. There was a woman on the field with her dogs off-lead, he got a bit excited so we stopped walking do to the 'calm down' routine. She glanced over and must've immediately realised what we were doing (plus he's wearing a harness at the moment, she would've seen that) and called her dogs back until we'd passed. That really helped, so if she's reading this – thanks very much :D

The house is almost clean again and I've almost caught up with the washing. I have two loads to hang out this morning and the bedding to put in the machine. Food has been of the quick-cook variety for the last few days :D But now Scampi's settled down a bit he's going to learn the household routine properly. Must admit – I'm knackered :rotfl:

    Morning everyone.

My last ever drive down from home at 5.00a.m.! And it was extra lovely because the dawn rose at about 5.30a.m. giving me a wonderful drive down all the lochs.

Stirling is much colder than I expected, cars are covered in heavy frost here. I shall spend the day clearing my drawers out and packing up!

Camelot - that was early, at least it was early enough to miss the bulk of traffic.

Dumpling - the spring flowers are certainly worth the walk out, they always cheer me up.

Hope everyone has a great spring day!

Dumpling I know it seems like a godsend to have a smaller appetite, but please remember those of us who are diabetic shouldn't be missing meals. It is important to keep your blood sugar on an even keel, so try to have a small snack at lunchtime, and of course you must have a breakfast.

Hope all goes well with your CPN

Morning one and all. Good start here too but rain forecast. Yuk!

Just popping in and out quickly this morning as we have St James' in Leeds today for Mr TA's next injection. As usual going by bus, then train, then another bus as, daft as it sounds, it's still quicker than driving there!

Oncology is a very busy department and we always have about an hour to wait for the consultant and then another wait for the injection. So bag packed with book, drink and sandwich for the wait!

Left a couple of tubs of Bolognese thawing for tea as popping some pasta in a pan is all I will feel up to after the long day in store.

Have a good day one and all. Take careXX Ooh Gers you must be so excited! Is anything being planned for your last day or are you just "going quietly". It's 9 years since I retired and I'm not usually one for a fuss but they gave me a lovely send off on my last day!
