Kia Sportage

I am looking at a KIA sportage. The guy in the showroom said that at the minute he could sell me a brand new one for less than a used one with the promotional offers he has.
I am tempted but I am also trying to do a bit of research - the used ones are selling for £17,000ish (14 plate)..brand new is £21000.
I am sure he will want me to use their finance and then look like I have been given a good deal on part exing my old car??

What do you think is the catch??

We bought a new one for less than used by using an internet broker.
  • Not Kia Sportage but we have just got a Qashqai for lower than they are going used. They can simple give bigger discount on new than used.
  • Food for thought. Thanks Gloomendoom and Disney_Pluto. Got a test drive on Saturday. Aim to go armed with numbers and what I am willing to pay.

We used a reverse auction to buy ours. You give the broker the spec you want and dealers from all around the country bid their lowest prices to get your business.

You get the car a good price without having to endure all the dealer purchasing pantomime obllocks.
  • Just picked up our new Kia Soul at the weekend. We managed to get 4k off by quoting the best price we got on the net (Drive the deal, closely followed by carwow) and still was able to take advantage of the Souls 0% offer ;-)
We test drove the both the Sportage and Soul, but were bowled over by the Soul. The Sportage ran it very close though and was a nice drive. Found the 1.7 diesel slightly unrefined, but the quality of these cars are quite eye opening. Others we considered were Renault, Fiat, Mini, Nissan and Vauxhall, but found the fit and finish of Kia to be the best.
One thing to note, they are far from the most efficent cars in their class, and CO2 output means higher tax, but both models won us other despite that.
PS - I'm not new, just can't seem to get old password to work AKA Happy_Shrimper ;-)

The Sportage is being replaced with a new model next winter so discounts should improve.

Might also be worth looking at the Hyundai IX35. It's the same car underneath but seems a bit cheaper and slightly better spec. for the money.
  • Just been looking at the Mitsubishi version...I'm confusing myself now :(
