Well by definition you'll need a satellite dish, I don't know about availability of Sky outside the UK. Also a smaller font would be nice.

I think that'd only work as an intermediary, you still need the sky signal from somewhere first to go to the slingbox. But it would be ideal to transfer that signal to the wireless laptop.

Nephasu are you actually needing the sky signal as well or is that something that is already sorted? Obviously it will be easier using the slingbox with an existing UK sky box to send the signal to spain, you then just need a broadband connection in Spain set up.

well i wasnt sure how it works when your paying for sky and broadband but not being at home i havent sorted where im staying yet i just thought that there must be some way of doing it i cant be the only person who would benefit and the sky home page is no use at all.
    many thanks for your help

Well depending on where you stay there may even be a wireless hotspot to connect to (which would save the hassle of attempting to set up short term broadband connection). I think with the slingbox it's just a case of logging in to your personal slingbox from anywhere in the world and being able to view whatever the slingbox is connected to, including your sky box.

Just wondering how you get on with changing the Sky channel when using the slingbox?

For example, suppose a person is in Spain (as in nephasu's example) and is watching a Sky channel over the web via the slingbox, but then they want to watch a different Sky channel. If there's no one at home near the actual Sky box is it possible to change the channel?

Only asking as I've been considering a slingbox as well.

I use GBPVR for doing a similar kind of thing (works as a PVR, but has a web front end that will allow you to stream/set up recordings)

This would have to be installed on a computer connected via a capture card to the sky box (with a remote blaster to enable you to change channels), so you would be looking at a decent spec pc + capture card + blaster

    HTH

PS: Great community over at forums.gbpvr.com if you want anymore info

I haven't been to Spain since I was about 8 so I think mascherano's personal experience will be more relavant than mine. :D
Could be his suggestion ends up being cheaper and less hassle depending what it's like out there for price and ease.
