Flightstats Data

Does anybody know where the flightstats data comes from, how accurate it is and also what does the 'actual arrival time' mean:
the touchdown time or the time the doors are opened after taxiing to the end point?
for example you might touch down at 2pm but the plane doors might open at say 2:07pm .
This might make a difference if the delay was 3hours +/- a few minutes.

stevemej - the main point to bear in mind is that Fligtstats is not to be seen as evidence in a court case - ie it has no legal jurisdiction. It can be used to reinforce your recollection of the delay but the airline may well refuse to accept the information.
I'm unsure of the status of ACARS however as this is prepared by the relevant airline themselves I assume a judge is more likely to accept this as a record.0
