Ive been researching my options , and I came across this fibre cement type stuff which appears to my untrained eye , to possibly be the answer to my problems (if correctly fitted) Doesnt say anywhere in the specifications though about whether it can be fitted in 12ft lengths , which will require a phone call to them. So is this a good alternative product for my cladding, Furts /Kiran/any other builders if I may pick your brains once more please? Does it shrink?

There is a fixing guide here which also covers ventilation etc.

The guide says 3600mm lengths, just under 12ft. Eternit is stable and is frequently used in 8x4 sheets to clad large buildings. It is a heavier product than PVC so you will need to ensure the there is sufficient support.

The guide is quite detailed and should have most of the info you need but Marley are a reputable company and will have the technical advice available. I would have some photos ready to email over to them as they say a picture is worth a thousand words and they may well spot something you think is insignificant.
Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!

I would say OK subject to some provisos. If you order the natural board it requires numerous coats of careful painting before use. It is a certainty that this will not be done properly. So it is prudent to order the pre coloured or decorated version.

However the product is not maintenance free, although there are people who will say that it is. Regular washing may be required and this depends on your location, the orientation and the degree of pollution. South facing on the coast is probably OK, but beside a motorway, or in the centre of a large city is debatable. The finish holds the dirt.

Also the finish needs decorating and this will depend on the location. It might be every 7-10 years.

If it is located beneath your windows you need to have considered your cill detail and flashing. The dirt from your windows may get washed down into the board. This will mean more regular washing and possibly decorating. Ideally you will have specified a cill detail that has foreseen this issue.

I suspect that the cost effective answer would be good quality, and well decorated, softwood cladding. But if your windows shed water onto the cladding, and they should not, then softwood may not be the best decision.

    Hope this helps.
