I just searched SayNoTo0870.com and found 01256 758717 for Tesco's PoP (Point of Presence - Tesco's geographical ISP number).
Even though this is a geographical, Orange may charge for it as it's not a voice call but a data call. If they don't charge now they may do so in the future once they catch on to it.0 -
thanks guys,
1) i use 2M ntl at home so .. 2) i also used the saynot0870 but tesco requires signing up and paying! thats why i asked for username and password..
nevermind, i will just have to get another 1000min off peak o2 contract to use my 0845 freeinternet- i am running 7 (yes seven) contracts at the moment and if mobileshop or talkworld goes under i will be in the !!!!e :O(

I think you'll find you need to sign up a username and password for most of them, but if you get a payg account then find a number to substitute for the 0845 that should work0
-
The reason why I didn't post a username & password is that although Tesco PAYG says you have to pay for it - I think this is actually from the cost of the call probably an 0844 number.
If you signed up to Tesco Internet PAYG but instead of using the supplied 0844 number, you used the geographical number then you may get away with it.
Just change the dial-up number from the 0844 number to the geographical number.
If it doesn't work, then you've not lost anything.0 -
hi, i have just tried to join tesco.net , i got to the part where my bank/credit card details are required?! i know its meant to be pay as you go but i just dont feel right letting them having my details... any other help? plz..0

My mistake. For some unknown reason you have to provide a credit/debit card.
I thought at that cost it they would take a cut of the call charges similiar to how 0870, etc numbers work.
I don't understand who it works as it's 3ppm call charge during daytime use so unless you access the internet via a freephone number type number and then Tesco bill you via your credit/debit card for the minutes you use, or they do take a cut of the call charges and they don't really need your credit/debit card but ask for it anyhow.
You could go into a tesco store and ask them do they know how it works. ie, are you charged by dialling a number and they take a cut that way in which case why do they need credit/debit card details, or is it a freephone number to access the internet and they would then just debit your credit/debit card!?
UPDATE: Forget that idea all together as you need a BT line and you have to allow CLID (Caller Line ID) to be forwarded to them. In other words, they check that the number you are ringing from is the landline number you registered with. It may have to be a mobile contract that allows an 0845 number.0 -
Get yourself over to https://www.pre-dial.com.
Use their Orange access number and dial any 0845 number from there.
So you would dial 0779 231 6447 p 0845 055 1861 from most mobiles, where "p" is pause (usually hold down *, # or 7 depending on the handset).
0845 numbers can be called through pre-dial using your inclusive minutes.0 -
I'd recommend after you do that for a few days you ring Orange and double check with them that you haven't been charged for the call.jjames wrote:Get yourself over to https://www.pre-dial.com.

Try not to make it obvious it's that number you are actually checking to see if they have charged you for as it may get them suspicious - Just ask them have I been charged for any calls I made on such a date, etc.
Remember Orange may already charge for this number as it is a calling card type number. If they don't currently charge be aware that sometime in the future they may do so.0
