Car on Gumtree - are these messages potential scams ?

Im selling a van on Gumtree. Lots of pics and description etc

Ive received three texts from different numbers all asking " for a description, send pics and final price " to an email address. They never mention the van - just the " ad on Gumtree"

It screams scam but I cant work out what one - unless they want my email address to sell / spam it ? Ive just deleted the texts btw

Anyone know ?

    Yep they are scams.
They will suggest they send money via Western Union or PayPal and send a shipper for car, then the money never materialises.

Do a Google search using words like gumtree, advance payment, scam etc

I wonder what the point is, as I would never let anyone take the car without payment cleared in my Bank Account.

Do they actually send someone to collect it? Could be fun! :A

I have had a few text's, for my car, including a scammer in Oz & I've been winding them up by adding 00's to the price, so my £13k car is now priced at £1.3m & they keep going with the details.

Send them a picture of a police van in full livery and a nice little sales patter that this is a trial for your force. Normally vehicles are sold at auction. But you are selling this one directly to see if the cash strapped force can make some extra money. This vehicle had light duty only. Used to round up and transport computer equipment used my internet scammers.

  • We had a car for sale on Gumtree. Amongst the usual scams, this one was the best. I received an email 'supposedly' from Gumtree informing me I had several queries and asking me to log on following the link to view them. Asked for name, address, password and card details including security number, expiry details etc for verification details only you understand:rotfl:

Yeah the BF saw an ST for sale - fab price - advert says in London - but after he emailed for some more info - turns out car is in Scotland and needs " shipping " and he can pay by Pal Pal etc. just seemed so odd - he just deleted ! Who buys a car without seeing it and test driving ? Lol

They make a payment via some online international payment system that can be cancelled up to 30 days.
Then his Brother who wanted the van gets run over by an escaped hormonal menstruating Elephant.
They say sorry, you refund half the money and keep the rest.
The whole payment gets cancelled and vanished from your bank and you just paid them half the value with your own money.
