Talk of organ donation etc is scaremongering IMO. Of course there are fatalities, same as any with form of transport. Or just crossing the road for that matter. The risks are greatly reduced with proper training and education. There are plenty of training courses for learners and riders who have passed their test and want to continue improving their skills. Many are run by ex police or military motorcyclists.
I drive a car now but have a full motorcycle licence. Being on two wheels certainly improves the riders awareness of road conditions and the importance of anticipation and these skills are easily transferred onto 4 wheels. If every car driver had experience on a motorcycle there would be an improvement in overall driving standards IMO.0 -

What utter tosh, the facts and figures speak for themselves, motor cyclists are 35 times more likely to be killed then car drivers, and 50 times more likely to be seriously injured
I have been a traffic cop for over 20 years and attended thousands of KSI's I am an advanced police motor cyclist, advanced car driver, LGV and PCV, so have a pretty good understanding from all angles.
The fact is many young kids and middle aged men on motor cycles believe themselves to be invincible and it really doesn't matter who's at fault, the biker comes off worse every time, training helps for sure, but Joe Public will still kill and injure you, no matter how good your training is.
2013 Government figures
Relative risk for vulnerable road users
Motorcycle users, per mile ridden, are roughly 35 times more likely to be killed in a road
traffic accident than car occupants.
Pedestrians and pedal cyclists, per mile walked and cycled respectively, are roughly 11
times more likely to be killed in a road accident than car occupants.
Motorcyclists are over 50 times and pedal cyclists 30 times more likely to be seriously
injured in a reported road accident than a car occupant.0 -

Nothing sensationalist about it. I'm merely suggesting that the 16-year-old may not be equipped to make an informed decision.
Why does that suggest I dislike bikes?0
