Blimey! As I said before where I live, items are returned to my local Post Office for collection. It may well be that it doubles as Royal Mail's delivery office for collection items, I don't know as I don't tend to quiz them as to their proper title when I want to pick something up!!!

It's not a quiz, parcelforce might deliver back to a PO. But RM and SD, well that isn't quite the same, it's akin to Tesco saying your John Lewis order is at their depot for collection!

I can't imagine your little part of the UK being any different to any other :D

Oh dear OP, at least you have your parcel.

SD should not be left with a neighbour afaik but custardy is best placed to confirm that.

Jow123, chancesare is correct, Royal Mail deliver your SD parcels, not the Post Office.

The last special delivery we had was about a month ago and it was taken back to the delivery office.

Also this time, as well as leaving with a neighbour (I don't mind this), they didn't leave a red card. I only found out it had been delivered this morning when I checked the tracking information, which made me think it had been stolen.

Well you may think you know better.
    However you dont.
Some POs are still used for undelivered item collection points

Thank you for this. Maybe now they'll believe me!! I'm well aware who delivers my parcels/letters etc I'm just pointing out where mine need to be collected from.

Ah but in some areas, RM default to leaving stuff at the post office. In other areas, the local sorting office is directly behind the post office.

To a point you are correct but you are also wrong at the same time. It really depends on the local arrangements. In some villages for example RM will leave parcels at the local post office (if it has one) instead of causing the house holder to travel to the next nearest town.
