  • the change will bump my bill up another £94 but as the water supply here is shared in a block of Victorian flats i do have the option of having a supply fitted and rebuilding my kitchen wall where the supply comes in. the last quote for this was £3500. the neighbors will of course will be cut off and have to arrange a new connection. anglian water dont seem to have any mention of shared supply s on thiere site anymore

    Welcome to the forum.

Are you metered on a shared water mains?

If someone cannot be metered on a shared water main - as is often the case - they are offered an assessed rate.

I don't understand why you would need a 'supply fitted' if you are metered; and the SoLow tariff only applies to metered properties.
  • Anglian Water was forced to reduce average prices by 7%. It is therefore increasing prices for those on SoLow tariff to compensate. This way most people see a small reduction paid for by a few who pay a lot more. This is an effect of regulation. If the energy suppliers are forced to cap their bills by a Labour government we will see more of these "creative" billing changes.
  • I contacted Anglian Water yesterday because I thought I had worked out my new charges wrong.
    Oh dear…
My current total per year for water is £60.
The new proposed charges mean that I will be paying £187.
    Over triple!!!

I asked why the changes and was told it was to help those who struggle financially and make it fair.
I asked about the Aquacare Plus tariff and was told that I don’t qualify- even though I am receiving ESA Income Related- because I don’t use over 75m3 (it’s 25m3).
Erm…, yeah, that’s because I watch the pennies! I will become one of those people they try to help who are struggling financially.
    Well done Anglian Water!
Is there anything I can do? Anything at all. I struggle with mental health problems and just feel completely overwhelmed by it all.

Has anyone registered their interest with the LITE tariff? I assume if you input a higher outgoing than you have coming in, you'll be automatically place under this scheme.

You have to hoover up extra money from somewhere else, kc.
Reduce your needs. Shop at Lidl, Aldi etc.
Read all the boards. You seem to have a good grasp of things.

Why is it 'just !!!!'? It is absolutely accurate.

All water companies' revenue, and hence profit, is controlled by the Regulator. Any subsidy like SoLow and Watersure doesn't affect the revenue the company will raise. It is paid for by the other customers in increased charges.

So removing any subsidy like SoLow will mean that other customers will pay less. I have no idea of that subsidy in monetary terms, and how that reduction will be implemented, bearing in mind that SoLow is being phased out over a couple of years. However Ofwat - the one Regulator who has teeth - will obviously ensure that their permitted revenue each year will not be exceeded.

Ofwat and Teeth, two words that should not be used in the same sentance. Two years ago when a meter for free was offered , I just knew there was going to be a catch as suppliers such as A.W.A only do things if they can make more profit , just the same with electric and gas .No matter what new improved deals are offered by utility suppliers . its never for customers but their shareholders .:(

James, I started to apply and then thought why should I have to give my personal information to Citizen's Advice who for some reason are the arbiters of this deal! I totally object to doing that.

And I want to know the criteria they are using to judge my eligibility for this tariff - where do they tell you that?

My contract is with AW not the CAB.

P.S. And to top it all, the website timed out after I went through the application with false info to test it out!:mad:

Oh, and no mention of the LITE (bloody American grrrrr....) tariff being an alternative to try on the letter I received today, barely one week before the switch!:mad::mad:

Oh, and the customer survey they apparently did. Where was my vote in that survey?:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Tell you what, if only we could get every one of the 300,000 affected by this to buy one AW share so that they could turn up at the AGM and vote I bet they wouldn't be so bloody quick to thrust their monopolistic power down our throats!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Oh and of course i'm over the two year trial period for the water meter so they've got me by the danglies even if it benefited me to change back to unmetered!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

If I could afford the tenner AW would probably charge I'd put in a Freedom of Information request to find out how many of the 300,000 affected were polled in the survey...I bet that'd be very telling.

And to quote AW themselves "We do everything we can to help customers manage bills". OK, AW, would that be the bill that will rise for me by 200%! Managing bills isn't the same as not fleecing your tied-in customers in the first place you contemptible swines.

I'd like to take a wedge of tenners from that quarter-billion profit these scammers made and thrust it unceremoniously down the CEO's throat!!!!!!!!!!!

    And....breathe....

Remember, you should still save water even when you can't save any money.;)
