    A lot of sour grapes from some people in the south. :D

    Got a great view where I come from! Even had my eclipse glasses.

    Great morning; the whole village came out! :cool:
    You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:
  • Great view from East Yorkshire! Although not as impressive as a total eclipse - which I was lucky to see in Cornwall in 1999.

    As the world goes pitch black for a few minutes, even though you know what's happening all the hair on the back of your neck stands up. Can fully understand why in the really olden days people used to sacrifice small children - suddenly the sun starts to return! Obviously not recommended nowadays.
  • I share your pain. My enjoyment of the eclipse was totally marred by thick cloud. To whom can I complain? What's more, I want recompense for this!!

    I'd still say it's fair enough to class it as once in a generation, even if the time frame is slightly less than usually considered for a generation.

    I've seen several partial solar eclipses, from the 80's onwards, I've sadly never seen a total (or nearly total) eclipse though. I was in Cornwall in 1999, which was covered in cloud, as was most of London on Friday. I did see the TV coverage though and I felt a little sorry for the Faroe Islanders and their visitors, that was exactly like my eclipse experience in 1999!

    I've also watched two transits of Venus as it passed across the face of the Sun. These really are "once in a lifetime" events, the next one is not due until 2117! (I suppose they count as "eclipses" too!)

    In the week running up cloud was stressed on every weather show I saw, so I don't know what OP saw. The next one as full will be in 74 years, the one in 2026 is far more partial in the UK.

    I thought the eclipse was very impressive.

    Although I know people on this site love to complain so i'm not at all surprised there is a thread dedicated to the eclipse being a let down ;)
