Virgin Broadband cost help please

Options
Hi

My dad has finally invested in a smart phone, at the young age of 75:D
He is with virgin and pays £34 a month for tv and landline, he has a tivo, I called to ask them what is the cost of broadband and explained what it was for, they said £18 a month, I think that is way too much, does anyone have any ideas for what I can do to either get the cost down or use someone else( with as little disruption as possible

many thanks
sam

    Confused re Smartphone .
Does he want broadband on the phone outside the home = Mobile Network Package .
Or Home Broadband that will give the smartphone wifi .

With a Virgin phone line he won't be able to use any other BB supplier unless he transfers his phone too.

BB is £8.75pm (half price) just now for new customers. You could try going down that route as he would be new to BB.

I was advised by fuel broadband that I could retain my virgin phone line and number alongside the new broadband package and new phone number - the idea to get a BT Line installed at my property and put their broadband to the test and see if it meets my needs. They said that my existing Virgin Package would not be cancelled by them and would run alongside theirs.

There's nothing to stop you having both a BT Line and a Virgin Line if you're quite happy to pay the costs of 2 Line rental packages. However I think the OP was trying to save his father money not cost him money by paying for two lots of line rental.

My point was that with only a Virgin phone, he would only be able to use Virgin BB.

That's correct if you're not transferring your number to them.

My long term plan is Freeview + fuel broadband & phone for £19 a month, subject to their broadband meeting my needs + free BT Line installed - also opens up a new arena for me Sky etc special deals from cashback websites. It's a shame you can't try before you BUY - so I have to enter into a contract and play the long term game.

I'll try the fuel broadband with NOW TV - no contract - and see how it performs

Nothing stopping you having Sky TV with Virgin phone and BB.

Freeview + fuel broadband & phone for £19 a month is my main objective and a free BT Line installed + special offer and cashback with fuel broadband :)

Also a free trial of NOW TV to put through it's paces using fuel broadband
