Numpties at checkouts

I actually found myself self-analysing my shopping this afternoon.
Yes, I had the moron in front who didn't move down with his shopping. I was in Aldi so I knew I had to plop everything in the trolley as it was scanned. This meant that I needed both hands free so I had to leave my purse in my handbag- I was wearing jeggins so no pockets either. I was very conscious of the fact that I was spending several minutes getting my purse out. Then I had to ask for cash back in pound coins (£10 for the electricity meter!!!) so it took another 5 seconds or so to put them away.
Something else that winds me up is the lack of professionalism of the checkout staff. Sainsbry's staff are the worse. They scan at a snail's pace and stop to have conversations with other checkout operators...0 -
The other week my mum had the 'joy' of being behind an elderly customer who had FIVE purses to deal with. One with her loyalty card, one for notes, one for £2 and £1 coins then the 4th for other coins and the fifth with coupons.
She took out things from each purse and received stuff back for each purse too. Then took an age placing her shopping in the bags.
Why on earth does she need five purses?
Mum gave me a description of this woman so I can avoid joining a till behind her. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I pack after as I don't get nagged by unexpected item or bags need verging.
Me and a friend went through self scan with 10-11 items. She packed as scanned and I packed after paying. Who was the quickest? Me. If only people came equipped with a personal calculator. It could be stored in the cranium and used for simple mathematics.
That would be so useful.
Every single mobile I owned had a calculator on them. 99.5% of us have mobiles. Use them.
Before mobiles were really popular I can remember a supermarket chain in France having calculators on the trolley handlesThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

No, thanks -- I can't be bothered. Why make life complicated for yourself?!0 -
It would be useful if it was quick, effortless and perfectly reliable. I suppose you're like Rain Man when totting up your shopping?
Its really not difficult. Its simple arithmetic.ScarletMarble wrote: »Every single mobile I owned had a calculator on them. 99.5% of us have mobiles. Use them.

Not a dictionary to look up "sarcasm" though...0 -
Wasn't this topic flogged to death on this thread?

Ha ha! You lot would hate me, then! What drives me crazy is the way that supermarkets don't just sell stuff at a fixed price... They give you armfuls of vouchers. I pull out wads of them at the checkouts and have to check each one to see if it's still valid and if I've bought the relevant products.
Quite often, if I have, say a £5 off £50 voucher, I'll pick up what I want, but at the checkout, if I have spent around £40, I make everyone wait while I go back and get a few extra items so I can get the savings.
It's probably annoying to have to wait for me, but then, it's very annoying to have handfuls of vouchers and be forced to go back round the shop a second time, just so I can jump through the stupid hoops and use the vouchers.
The shops could put an end to it all by scrapping vouchers and pricing goods fairly. But until then, you're all going to have to wait for me at the tills. Oh well.
Prats like you probably find that you are short of a few items when you get home. Whilst you are selfishly holding everyone up at the checkout while you are browsing, I have taken a few random items of yours from the conveyor belt and put them in my trolly. When you have finally gone, I give your items to the checkout person and say I no longer need them.
Hopefully, I have taken something vital, so you have to then waste YOUR time and traipse back to the supermarket.0 -
Oh my goodness, this is me exactly!! Although I try and pack as quickly as possible while the items are being scanned.
I'm sorry :-(
Don't worry. This doesn't apply to you as you do pack whilst the items are being scanned.
It's the standing there like a lemon, doing nothing, and then taking ages to pack that's the annoying part. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0
