Bought house, Moved in , lots wrong

Hi guys

A bit of advice pls. Bought a house and moved in7 days ago. 1st time buyer, and lots of issues, Wondered if ne have any recourse. Oven broken and had to have gas turned off, horrible smell not vanishing after a few days and discovered after lifting a floorboard that we have rat problem so bad we had to drill holes in floorboards throughout ground floor for pest exterminator to spray some biochemical under the house, then discovering the reason some plugs don't work (another thing weoriginally didn't mind) because rats chewed the wires...The chemical spray caused a short circuit and now we have no power on the ground floor. So as well as the broken oven being 'one of those things' we now have to rip up carpets and floorboards to get the wiring sorted...cold showers and microwave in bedroom! This house isn't a doer-upper...do we have any comeback financially from previous owners because this can't have all just happened when we'll completed 7 days ago, or do we have to accept it if the survey didn't pick it up? Thanks

    Welcome to home ownership.

(Oh for the days when you could phone the landlord and then complain on a pubic forum when he failed to respond fast enought....)

What type of survey did you have? did you check all the appliances prior to moving in? What did the information sheet in the conveyancing process say?

    Caveat emptor.

Your rats are bad but this poor couple in Dunferline found their dream home full of dog poo when they finally got the keys.

Ouch sorry to hear about that. Interested to know if you got a basic valuation/survey or a home buyers report done? As the latter should have picked up some of those issues I'd have thought.

Unless you can show that they lied on the property details or declarations you don't have a case.
If you paid for a specific survey/inspection on something and they failed to spot something obvious you might have a case against whoever did that survey/inspection on their professional indemnity insurance.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.

they would say the damage was there when the OP took the policy was taken out (as only bought 7 days ago), so not covered.
