No Hot Water

If you have a gravity system and the boiler is firing for only a couple of minutes, then you are almost certainly air-locked.
Have a look in your airing cupboard for an air screw or bleed valve.
Check the header tank to make sure that there is actually water in the system.
If you're feeling brave, try undoing the higher heating connection going into the hot water cylinder slightly and trying to bleed it that way.
If all this fails, consider shoving a hosepipe attached the mains supply down the open vent above the header tank and blasting it out.
If you leave it alone, it might just sort itself out - they sometimes do.
A heating engineer would probably boil the airlock out, but you don't want to get into that.0 -
thanks alot Elite. Hot water cylinder is in the loft, and from memory, no bleed valve. Got an electric shower and dishwasher (actually suprising how little you need hot-water for!!), so can get away with it for now....
hopfully the plumber is coming round tomorrow night to finalise the plans for the combi so he can sort it out then0 -
Good luck with the combi conversion. I don't think that I have ever had a customer who wasn't staggered by the difference in performance and efficiency on this sort of job.0
