Very occasionally when I start the car it starts to 'shudder' ...a bit like my washing machine on spin! when I turn it off and start the car again, it's fine. Any ideas what may be causing this? Thanks
I had one of these for about 3 years, it did this very very occasionally, iirc if you tried to rev it the revs stayed where they were, same as you off/on and it ran fine.
There seemed no set of circumstances to it happening, ie hot/cold, wet/dry. I'm aware I've been too much help to the cause of it, but in all the problems we had over the years with the car this never seemed to be related.0 -
I had one of these for 4.5 years, ex lease, 6 speed 56 plate mile muncher but:
1) had the common pulley rattle, was replaced but came back after 3 years, left it in the end as noise was not too bad.
2) common yo yoing temp gauge issue, fix is to replace both oil cooler thermostat and main thermostat with GENUINE PARTS not pattern parts.
3) no injector issues (phew) as always used delphi or bosch fuel filter every year.
4) Turbo started to produce P132B error intermittently, very annoying as could happen anytime, clean or replace turbo time, i didn't as got rid.
5) Drive n handling was good, in one winter i managed 58.9mpg on M11 (between 60 and 65mph)
6) chewed through 3 alternators (think one was a faulty rubbish RTX one)
7) 1 battery
8) Split EGR hose, replaced with silicone one.0 -
Mine (2.0 Tdci 130) does this occasionally, perhaps once every 2-3 weeks. It started in cold weather and was accompanied by grey smoke, so I assumed glow plugs were at fault. I had them tested and they were OK. I then ran a couple of bottles of injector cleaner through it, at the same time as a couple of long motorway journeys, and it now happens much less often. I'm guessing one or more of the injectors is showing its age. It's no big deal, as it starts fine next time, and it runs like clockwork with good power and economy, so I'm not overly concerned.
Starting with the clutch depressed makes sense, but funnily enough I was taught not to do it (except in extreme cold when the oil is thick) and never have in 40+ years of driving. No ill effects. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
I read an article with input from a DMF manufacturer, LUK, and they advised depressing the clutch.
Can't remember the reason off hand.
It was in Car Mechanics Mag.
One thing to consider is that my Mondeo tdci was still on the original clutch and DMF when the mate I sold it to traded it in a year or so later.
Would have had over 250k on it by then.
Only issue was the aux belt tensioner, apart from handbrake cables!
It got regular doses of Redex and had zero injector problems.
The only car I had that was more reliable was a Subaru Legacy (04 plate)0
