Car Tax
Hello all, I'm going to buy a new car tomorrow, the car is Taxed and Insured and MOT'd.
The car is Taxed and Insured in the previous owners name. The owner has applied for a new V5 for the car however it will unlikely arrive before he goes on holiday. (I will ask if he will hold the car until it arrives, until after he comes back off holiday so bear that in mind)
If I was to get insured on this car on a separate policy could I legally drive it back home is the question I'm asking.

When you buy the car the tax instantly expires. YOU need to insure and tax it before you drive it away.
No V5C then dont buy it. Maybe just misplaced, maybe a logbook loan on the car and they are applying for a duplicate?
Without the new keepers slip or numbers off the logbook you wont be able to tax it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
If this vendor has no v5 then don't buy the car!0

HPI check is completely green, maybe it is just a genuine misplacement of the V5?0

HPI check wont show is they have a logbook loan on the car.
What reason do they give for not having the log book?
Have they just purchased it? Are they a trader, or a trader pretending to be a private seller?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
why would they try to sell it knowing they didnt have the V5"Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0

The words of someone who is desperate to buy the car, despite the danger signals."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
HPI maybe clear, But you have no proof they actually own the car or of they are the registered keeper. How long have they owned it? Reason for not having it?
Can you afford to throw that money away if the car turns out to be owned by someone else?
Without the V5C you cannot tax it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

did you not just quote this on another thread , summot about paying £25 and using a v62
I replied there to say no you can,t and copied an extract from the v62
If you do not have a V5C or the V5C/2 you will need to fill in this
form and pay a fee. You can pay by cash, direct debit, debit card,
credit card, cheque or postal order (made out to Post Office Ltd.),
Post Office budget card or by traveller’s cheques (in pounds sterling).
If you are not the registered keeper of the vehicle you may not be able
to tax until you get a V5C in your name.
edit , so you did https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5197708
