  • The 90's kitchen looks more like a 2010 0ne, we didn't have pull out cupboards in the 90's everything was oak or limed oak

  • Well, I guess that (very recent) 1990s kitchen answers my queries of "Whats in it for them? Why are they giving the programme makers free tv programmes?" - as per a posters suggestion that maybe she gets to keep that kitchen when the programme is over.

Cue for anyone who fancies doing so to re-view the "surprised at new kitchen" section of the 1990s programme to see if her surprise looks genuine - or whether she was having to lay on a darn good act after having helped to choose how it was going to be for her own personal use afterwards.
  • Don't forget that they had an extension added in the 1970's

I recall that as being they closed off the extension to the kitchen in the 1960s to make it smaller than they already had temporarily (ie in line with 1960s kitchens being smaller).

I know for a fact my mum had a pull out larder in the 90's, but then she bought a German kitchen. That kitchen was very similar to the one I installed in my own home in 94, although I didn't have the money for the pull out larder. I also had the racks and utensil hooks. I also remember hankering for the dualit toaster but not being able to afford it but both my kettle and toaster back then were brushed stainless

Floors were laminate and to be honest we never had a lot of pine furniture other then the kitchen table ( still in use at stepdaughters). We shopped a lot in ikea as I loved the streamline clean looks. I never chucked out my chintz as I never had any lol
  • Next week they are looking into how we could be eating in the future

I've just watched it. I think the kitchen is probably the reward for participating. They deserve it for all that disruption and their efforts!

They did really well with the pasta machine this week. I have seen a chef on TV making a bodged job out of pasta making using a similar machine. Loved how big and family friendly the kitchen is but the sofa will get spoiled with steam and spills I think .
Considering how recently the 90s feel, I was rather alarmed to see all the familiar TV personalities looking like they had only just left school.
When the BSE thing was rife, we bought our beef from costco because they had certified BSE free mince from scotland so we didnt give up eating it completely , although we did abandon mcds.
I suppose the thing we are all thinking about this decade is the chemicals leaching into our food from plastic wraps.
