New BBC2 Back in time for dinner

Options
On now.
A family is sent back in time to cook and eat the same as people did in the 50's up to the present day.

The wife does not normally cook, and the result is eyeopening as to how people are so cosseted these days.

I especially loved the part when it took three of them to try to open a tin of pilchards with an old fashioned tin opener that my Mum had when we were small. I nearly wet myself laughing:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

It will be on i player later if you want t catch it

I'm watching it. She seemed pretty dense about cooking basic things I thought. Cake icing made me laugh .... got that wrong.

But now they're onto fish fingers.

we had that same design of tin opener about 30odd years ago - surely they must be old enough to have used a similar one ?

I think that was about the time she had. She was delivered the goodies and told people were coming round at 4pm. So she couldn't have made it the day before and put it in the larder.

Ok But if she was short of time it didn't occur to her to add less water?

That's what I would have done.

Another thing I noticed we didn't have the luxury of a marble shelf in the pantry but we did have a meat safe, a cupboard with a metal mesh door, to keep any insects out.

  • There are big communication issues, especially when Giles left them a treat basket containg bacon, eggs and white bread, not realising that they were a Jewish family and poor Rochelle had to cook it for the camera.

As for the girls and cleaning I was rolling up. "Well I am going to university to be able to earn money"
So who is going to do all the cooking, laundry and cleaning while she is at uni?:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

All in all it was the best comedy I have seen in years :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

  • They were given an allotment full of goodies and yet she didn't think to make the liver into a casserole.

To be quite honest they all look like they could do with a good meal, they look pasty and emaciated!
