Due to holiday inertia we end up at Woolacombe every few years but always enjoy it.

Exmoor zoo is a bit of a drive but well worth a visit especially as they do lots of kids friendly events during holidays.
We did the sheep dog/bird of prey display last year and would highly recommend it.
If you are a member of the NT there are quite a few properties/coastal sites in the area which may be running easter activities.

To be fair my kids are now 12 and 9 and the beach is still the best fun, the rock pools!

  • Amazing cooked breakfast, at cafe overlooking the beach...can't remember what it's called, but we visited twice in 5 days!😉
Pottery painting for a wet day at one of the caravan sites... The large one as you approach on the road down to Woolacombe
We visited 2 Easters ago and it was freezing, so we frequented the Woolacombe chippy up the side stret( so good with names!... Can anyone help?)
Take your hats, scarfs, gloves and enjoy beach combing, rock pooling.

We stayed a Woolacombe Bay and loved it, been twice with kids.
    Enjoy
  • I'll try and reply to everyone... apologies if I miss anyone!

Hi know the area well, can I suggest that also the beach even if it isnt warm is so so worth it! and lunch in the red barn, the pub looking over it have a good time

Will definitely be heading to the beach, even if its raining! I'll look at Red Barn, thanks for the tip!

Everywhere you go in Devon (including supermarkets) will have leaflets about things to do, you can get money off vouchers as well

Big Sheep is good, I know lots of people who've taken Grandkids and they have raved about it.

Very close to The Big Sheep is Atlantic Village. It is a shopping outlet (if you get any time on your own;)) with an Adventure Park which I understand has loads of stuff for kids. Added bonus there is an Asda with a cafe for cheap eats/shopping.

Whatever you do, have a great time and hope the weather is good

Ah ace I didn't think about looking for the brochure things in the supermarkets. Thanks!

We went to the Big Sheep a while ago when we visited Exeter and it was fab so looking at going again but thank you!

And we didn't make it to Atlantic Village last time (and I'd forgotten about it this time!)

    sorry for the delay!

I went there 7 yrs ago. Vowed never to go back. It was disgusting. utterly. Caravans were crap, dirty, unwashed linen on the beds when we arrived. I left after 3 nights as the girls were vomiting. They even remember it as the holiday with the dirty caravan.

I didn't read trip advisor before going. BIG mistake.

Well 7 years is quite a long time ago so it may have had some refurb done, We're taking our own linen anyway :)

I don't tend to believe trip advisor 110% - I find some people moan for the sake of it (There was someone on there moaning about it was a ruined holiday because they didn't get "free" stuff.... like that would ruin it!)
  • Combe Martin wildlife park is a fairly short drive away and good for all ages.
There's also an indoor roller skating rink fairy nearby that opened recently which might be good if the weathers bad.

Oh ace! Thank you! will check them out

The one thing to be aware of when thinking of booking a Woolacombe Bay Holiday through the Sun is they have a strict no dogs policy when booking through newspaper promotions(unless guide dogs etc)

That's ok - We aren't taking the dog anyway but thank you

when we went to Woolacombe we went to a sheepdog and bird of prey display....it turned out to be Mist from the channel 5 kids programme (not sure if it's still on?) really good display and the kids loved it. This was a few years ago now so not sure if it's still on and we only saw it advertised at the side of the road in the field where it was held.

Never heard of Mist - unfortunately DD2 is a "Sophia the First" addict so we have the Disney channel on :-/

Will see if I can find more info out about it - Thanks!
  • if it hasn't already been said, try 'the big sheep'.

Watermouth Castle has some interesting bits for younger kids - possibly want to skip through the castle itself fairly quickly (although the animated organs and the model railway have some interest). Up behind it is a sort of theme park but intended for younger kids. We went there (and stayed in one of the apartments on site) in 2013 when our eldest was 8 - he enjoyed it but I wouldn't expect him to now at 10. Some of it is "rides" other bits are hands on things like water pumps and air guns that fire soft balls at each other. A few things you have to pay extra for (like the water balloon fight) but most of them are free with your entry wrist band. Probably not one for a really wet day because its outdoors mostly, but it would be fine on a dry colder day that isn't beach suitable.

Edit - Combe Martin wildlife park was great - you can go in with the Meercats at a couple of points in the day. Rather than just look at animals in enclosures they tend to do a talk about each one - the sea lions are good (note seal lions, not seals - they sulk if you get it wrong!).
