Cabin bag size question/advice?

OK i am planning to only bring cabin bag, which is a rucksack.

If i can fit that rucksack in the smaller "Your Bag Must Be This Size" holder at the terminals, and i mean really squashing it in there, is it then ok to go? OR does it have to fit in the holder easily?

It weighs less than 10 kg so its ok by weight.

Anyone know where airlines draw the line on squashing bags into them baggage measure containers?

with a soft bag, you can squish it in there, as long as it fits in the size guage with everything you have filled your rucksack with.

If you're fly with the likes of Ryan Air and I will assume most airport have these now, by these I mean, those measuring *thingy's where if it fits in, then its classed as cabin luggage!

*Thingy - similar to envelope size measuring tool but for suitcases......I hope that makes sense.....off to find a pic for you?! So they do take into account DIMENSIONS.

Yes thats what i meant, the metal boxes next to the weighing scales, i weighed the rucksack its only 7 kg, i can squash the rucksack into the small container it does fit, squashed but fits, its very soft.

Be aware that different airlines have different maximum dimensions.
Hubby flies using Ryanair, and Easyjet frequently. His small suitcase is ok for Easyjet but not the ryanair.
Ryanair cabin bag max dimension is 55x40x20cm
Easyjet allow 56x45x25cm

It is for Ryanair, i checked it today, but to gget to London to fly abroad i am going by Easy Jet, if it fits in Ryanair it should easy fit in Easy Jet as well.

I think.... i know Ryanair are stingy with this, more tight than Easy Jet.

Yeah if fits ryanair it will easily fit easyjet. Easyjet are like flying first class compared to Ryanair, but Ryanair is so cheap we accept if for what it is.
A lot of shops selling "cabin bag approved size" suitcases are too big for Ryanair.

If its bigger than the dimensions but squashes down to what you need it may be worth getting some compression straps (or DIY with something else) so that it appears the right dimensions when you pass the doormen

A lot also depends on who you happen to get at the gate and how they are feeling. Last time we flew Easyjet the group in front of us had 2-3 bags each but we laughing and joking with the gate woman and she didnt say anything and allowed them through. For the Mrs with 1 small handbag and a carrier she was told it was strictly 1 bag per person and she'd have to consolidate them or pay for one to go into the hold.

For it to be guaranteed to be placed in the cabin the actual size for easy jet is 50x 40 x 20.

They do allow bags up to 56x45x25cm, but warn if the flight is busy you maybe asked to place a bag bigger than 50x40x20 in the hold free of charge.

They only guarantee the smaller size will always travel with you
